James Gunn Addresses Casting Alan Ritchson As DC’s New Batman

Alan Ritchson’s chances of playing Batman have been addressed. The rumor mill never stops when it comes to the DC Universe’s Dark Knight. Several actors have emerged as potential candidates to take over the role left by Ben Affleck, given that Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne will remain separate from the DCU movie canon as Matt Reeves continues The Batman Universe.

With the success of Reacher and how the тιтular character, Jack Reacher, is a lot like Batman in many ways, Alan Ritchson has become a popular choice to play the DCU Batman in DC’s The Brave and the Bold movie. Ritchson has talked about how he wants to play Batman in multiple interviews. Now, DC’s boss weighs in on it.

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, James Gunn commented on the possibility of Alan Ritchson playing the DCU Batman.

According to Gunn, he is a big fan of the Reacher star. However, he did not reveal whether Ritchson could be the DCU’s Batman, stopping short of giving any details about the DCU’s Bruce Wayne. Check out the full quote below:

“I am a big Alan Ritchson fan. Both as an actor and as a guy. Let’s just wait to see what happens.”

What James Gunn’s Comments Mean For Alan Ritchson’s Batman Chances

The DC Universe’s Batman Movie Is Moving Forward

Based on Gunn’s comments and how the director did not outright say that Alan Ritchson is too old for Batman or anything of the like, the door seems to remain open for the actor to get cast as Bruce Wayne. It is clear that Gunn had further thoughts on the matter, but decided not to get into too much detail.

Given how the DCU’s mastermind is a fan of Ritchson, Gunn could be aware of not only his Reacher role, which is very Batman-like, but the fact that Ritchson has already played two DC heroes in the past. The actor gave life to a young version of Aquaman in the Superman prequel series Smallville before playing Hawk on тιтans.

As a fan of the actor and being aware of the fan campaign for Alan Ritchson to play the DCU Batman, Gunn could be open to at least bringing him in for an audition. Whether that happens or not will have to be seen, as DC’s Batman casting will be resolved after The Brave and the Bold‘s script is ready.

Our Take On What James Gunn’s Comments Mean For Alan Ritchson’s Batman Chances

The Reacher Actor Remains On The DCU Batman Race

After James Gunn’s comments, I feel more hopeful about Alan Ritchson’s chances of playing Batman. Before, I worried that DC would only look at actors around David Corenswet’s age for it. However, with Gunn not shooting it down and claiming he is a fan of Ritchson’s, the casting could happen. However, it will take some time for Batman to be cast.
