Marvel is far closer to a $10 billion movie record than you might already think thanks to the various movies under one hero’s name. Marvel and DC have both produced some eye-wateringly successful movies over the years, with box office results that remain major milestones and talking points to this day.
Naturally, this is more true for some characters than others, with both major and minor Marvel and DC heroes finding their footstep in the world of film. The financial success of the superhero genre is perhaps best summed up by the fact that the collected releases of a key Marvel figure are seriously close to $10 billion.
Marvel’s Hero Roster Has So Many Characters Who Have Made Billions
Nowadays – especially with the colossal success of the MCU timeline throughout the past almost two decades – there are a slew of Marvel heroes who’ve gained the franchise billions with their movie installments over the years. With plenty of movie trilogies having been completed in this time, this accomplishment has in some ways been easier than ever.
For example, all the original MCU Avengers to have gotten their own movie series have managed to gross above the billion box office mark, even if you don’t include their crossovers. The Iron Man trilogy made $2.4 billion (via The Numbers), Captain America’s quadrilogy made $2.6 billion (The Numbers), and Thor’s own quadrilogy similarly made $2.7 billion (The Numbers).
However, these heroes are not the only ones to be able to claim this accomplishment. The original Black Panther made $1.3 billion by itself (The Numbers), and Ant-Man’s collected movie roster made $1.6 billion (The Numbers), with Doctor Strange’s duology currently also sitting at the same amount (The Numbers).
If multi-hero movies are being counted, it’s also worth noting that the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy itself made $2.4 billion, and that ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine alone hit the $1.3 billion mark, though the collected ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool trilogy brought in $2.9 billion altogether (The Numbers). However, another key Marvel hero’s movie past far outshadows any of these numbers.
Spider-Man Is Within Web-Swinging Distance Of $10 Billion
Looking at all of Spider-Man’s collected Marvel movies, the hero has amᴀssed a staggering $8.97 billion in terms of overall box office results (The Numbers). Given how close this is to $9 billion – and how close that again is to $10 billion – this is doubly impressive, though it’s an astronomically high number all on its own.
For context, while this includes a higher number of movies than the MCU’s Avengers series, the collected Spider-Man films have also made over a billion more than every Avengers movie added together. Given the Avengers films have themselves made $7.6 billion (The Numbers), that’s a staggering statistic to consider.
Similarly, this puts Spider-Man’s collected movie box office results above even Batman’s own box office roster, which is huge to note given the hero has had arguably the nearest thing to Spider-Man’s film success. Once again, though, even Batman’s own colossal $7.9 billion movie empire (The Numbers) is over $1 billion short of Spider-Man’s ᴀssorted film releases.
Why Spider-Man’s Box Office Results Are So High
Spider-Man’s movie results are a testament to the consistent success of every movie featuring Spider-Man that released in theaters over the course of more than 20 years. Though Spider-Man’s highest box office results are naturally more recent affairs – with Spider-Man: No Way Home making $1.9 billion – this is by no means new for the world of Spider-Man.
2002’s Spider-Man, for example, has an overall worldwide box office of $822 million. This almost makes it the highest-grossing movie of the year in a time period that also included immensely successful films like The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
None of these live-action Spider-Man movies have grossed under $700 million, either, which is a notable feat given the mixed results the genre can sometimes have.
This overall result also includes Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, which have together already netted more than $1 billion, establishing the relatively untapped potential of theatrically released animated superhero movies. In some ways, this is almost unsurprising, since there isn’t really such a thing as a lackluster Spider-Man box office.
Even if you factor in the box office results of the Spider-Man and Men In Black II double feature as its own separate thing – which only made around $4 million – the average for all these Spider-Man movies sits at the $800 million mark. With this in mind, it makes a lot of sense that, over the course of these movies, Spider-Man films have amᴀssed over $8 billion.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Looks Set To Break Into $10 Billion For The Hero
With Spider-Man’s movie empire currently sitting at the $8.97 billion mark, the next Spider-Man movie to hit screens looks all the more important for the franchise. Excitingly, said next Spider-Man movie is none other than the fourth MCU Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day already has some major appeal after the cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Given the last 2 MCU Spider-Man movies each made over $1 billion, it seems very much possible for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to take the Spider-Man movie world to the $10 billion mark, further cementing the Marvel hero’s box office success.
