James Gunn’s Superman drastically raised the stakes for Peacemaker season 2’s story thanks to one ominous DCU detail. In Superman, Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor tries to end the Man of Steel through various means, including a Superman clone, a kaiju, an army of private soldiers, nanobots, Kryptonite, and a black hole that almost consumes Metropolis. Although Superman thwarts every single plan from Luthor, the precedent for world-shattering catastrophes is already set.
Peacemaker season 2’s first trailer raises multiple questions, as John Cena’s Chris Smith appears to encounter another less friendly version of himself. Theories about the second Peacemaker’s idenтιтy range anywhere from clones to alternate universes to a connection between the DCU and the DCEU. While a solid answer will only be provided once Peacemaker season 2 is available on streaming, Superman may already have dropped a huge hint at one of Peacemaker season 2’s biggest threats.
Superman’s Story Reveals A New Unexpected Danger For The Franchise
Pocket Dimensions Could Destroy The World, Or Even The Universe
Lex Luthor managed not only to discover a pocket dimension, but also adapt it as his secret headquarters and private prison. However, Lex Luthor’s portals to this pocket dimension have been a huge danger to himself and the world all along. As Mister Terrific explains to Lois Lane, a microscopic flaw in a single portal opening could lead to cataclysmic consequences for the neighboring universes.
Luthor’s portals don’t break down catastrophically at the end of James Gunn’s Superman, However, the black hole inside Luthor’s pocket dimension does go out of control and starts to destroy Metropolis. It’s almost a miracle that Superman and his allies successfully shut down the black hole, but it still proves how dangerous a single pocket dimension can be.
Peacemaker Season 2’s Story Seems Way More ᴅᴇᴀᴅly & Important
Peacemaker May Have Been Endangering The World With His Armory
Chris Smith keeps his weapons, suits, and helmets stored in a personal armory inside a pocket dimension he inherited from his father, Auggie Smith. Season 1 never explains how Auggie got this technology or how exactly it works, but Chris Smith continues to use it in season 2, which fully takes place in the new DCU. So, on top of meeting another Peacemaker inside his own pocket dimension, Peacemaker might be endangering the world every time he enters his armory.
Why Pocket Dimensions Are A Bigger Threat In Peacemaker Season 2
Peacemaker Likely Won’t Receive Help From Other Superheroes In Season 2
The first scene in the first Peacemaker season 2 trailer reveals that Chris Smith will be rejected by Maxwell Lord and the Justice Gang, meaning Peacemaker’s only allies will likely be the 11th Street Kids — his usual team. If the potentially world-ending side effects of pocket dimensions is explored in Peacemaker season 2, then the Justice Gang may not be there to help him fix the situation, at least not as quickly as Superman did in his movie.
James Gunn came up with the idea of adding pocket dimensions to his DC lore long before the DCU started. The fact that Gunn doubled down on the concept in the DCU’s Superman suggests that it will probably play a big role, if not in Peacemaker season 2, then probably in the franchise’s future. Anything from world-ending threats to the introduction of the DCU multiverse seems like a possible scenario.
