Zelda & Link Actors Confirmed For 2027 Live-Action Legend Of Zelda Movie

After much speculation, the stars of the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie have been officially revealed. Set to be directed by Wes Ball, who will use his performance capture experience from the Planet of the Apes franchise, the upcoming film is scheduled to release on May 7, 2027.

Since it will be based on one of the most popular video game series of all time, the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie is highly anticipated. However, there is a lot of pressure on Ball and the rest of the movie’s creative team, since many fans believe that getting a live-action Legend of Zelda movie right is impossible. Because of this, it was crucial to find the right actors to play Zelda and Link.

Now, over X (formerly Twitter), the official Nintendo account has revealed the first two cast members of The Legend of Zelda. In a message posted in both Japanese and English, Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary game designer who created the franchise, named Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. A follow-up post also reconfirmed the May 7 release date and thanked fans for their patience.

What These Castings Mean For The Live-Action Legend Of Zelda Movie

Based on this announcement, it is clear that Miyamoto thinks Bragason and Ainsworth will be great in these roles. Since they are both young actors, they haven’t had many prominent roles yet, but they do have some notable projects under their belts. Bragason is an English actress born in 2004 who has appeared in shows such as Three Girls, The Jetty, and Renegade Nell.

It’s not surprising that casting these two roles were the number one priority since Zelda and Link are both beloved characters.

Meanwhile, Ainsworth was born in 2008, making him several years younger than the Zelda actress, and has starred in shows like The Haunting of Bly Manor and Son of a Critch. Additionally, the Link actor starred alongside Bryan Cranston in the recently released movie Everything’s Going to Be Great.

Other than Bragason and Ainsworth, no other castings have been announced for The Legend of Zelda. The movie will definitely include many popular characters from the video game series, but it’s not surprising that casting these two roles were the number one priority since Zelda and Link are two beloved characters.

Our Take On These Legend Of Zelda Castings

More Casting Updates Will Likely Be Coming Soon

4 Legend of Zelda Elements the Movie Must Pull From the Games

Aside from these newly announced castings, practically nothing is known about the movie. It is currently unknown what game The Legend of Zelda movie will adapt, or if it will instead tell an original story that is just inspired by the video games. However, after the film was previously delayed, these castings confirm that Nintendo and Ball are working hard on the project.

Ball has previously discussed the pressure of directing The Legend of Zelda. More than likely, Bragason and Ainsworth will feel this pressure too, but based on their previous roles, I’m confident that they will portray exceptional versions of Zelda and Link. Therefore, after this casting announcement, I’m excited to continue getting more news about The Legend of Zelda in the coming months and years.
