Her perception of him changes when star student Maggie reveals that Hank “crossed the line” with her after walking her home one night. This cues Alma to question the truth, grappling with how much supporting Maggie will risk her own career.
What This Trailer Means For After The Hunt
The Movie Takes A Complex Look At MeToo
After the Hunt speaks to timely themes. Specifically, it touches on issues related to the #MeToo movement, which allowed greater acceptance for victims of Sєxual abuse to come forward. This film will address these issues through the lens of a fictional case and set of characters, speaking to real-world issues.
The trailer shows that it will attack this issue from multiple angles. At one moment, Maggie says, “It’s just like amazing to me, a young Black woman can get ᴀssaulted, and all these white people figure out a way to make it about themselves.” This emphasizes the issue of race as it relates to After the Hunt.
On the other hand, Hank is accusing Maggie of plagiarism. As a result, he claims the student is making up this story to help clear her name. This all intertwines with the experience of Alma, who is grappling with her own past demons during this debacle.
Our Take On The After The Hunt Trailer
This Is A Good Guadagnino Project
After the Hunt leans into what Guadagnino has done best in projects like Challengers by having a twisty, back-stabbing drama. Plot-wise, however, this takes on a storyline that is pretty far afield from what the director has covered before. Releasing on the cusp of awards season, it will be interesting to see whether this film ends up gaining more traction upon its release.
