Wonder Woman Movie Gets Biggest Update Since James Gunn’s Announcement (And The DC Film Could Happen Sooner Than Expected)

The new Wonder Woman movie has just received its most exciting update yet. After Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3 was canceled, the DC franchise stayed in limbo for quite some time. The Wonder Woman prequel series Paradise Lost was announced for the DCU’s Chapter One, but a solo movie for Diana Prince was notably missing from the slate reveal.

Recently, James Gunn shed light on the heroine’s situation, revealing that a Wonder Woman movie is in development at DC. The plan is for the film to enter production as soon as the script is finished, if Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran are happy with what they read. Now, the new Wonder Woman movie has received a major update.

According to Variety, DC is fast-tracking the DCU Wonder Woman movie. There is still no word on a Superman sequel, but the report claims Warner Bros. Discovery is happy with Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II script. This means that the DCU’s Wonder Woman should make her live-action debut before the franchise’s Batman, who has to debut after Reeves’ film.

What The New Wonder Woman Movie Update Means

Diana Prince’s Live-Action Return Is Closer Than Ever

With 2026 featuring a movie for a Batman villain, Clayface, and 2027 seeing the release of Matt Reeves’ anticipated The Batman – Part II, the earliest that the DCU’s The Brave and the Bold movie could be released is 2028. As such, it seems like the studio is moving fast on the other major DC character who has yet to debut.

Following the successful opening of James Gunn’s Superman movie, DC has turned its attention to fast-tracking Wonder Woman. Interestingly, while Gunn has said that he is working on a Superman sequel of sorts, the new report claims that a sequel announcement is not imminent. With that in mind, the idea of fast-tracking the Wonder Woman movie makes even more sense.

DC is likely looking to get as many of its biggest characters onscreen as soon as possible. That is why the Wonder Woman movie being given priority over a Superman sequel works. Based on how the script for the project is being written, there is a chance that DC’s new Wonder Woman could be cast in late 2025 or early 2026.

Our Take On The New Wonder Woman Movie Update

DC’s Wonder Woman Movie Could Be Released Soon

The Wonder Woman movie news is exciting. With Batman having to wait until Matt Reeves’ next film, I believe that fast-tracking Wonder Woman is the best course of action for DC. It would provide another strong franchise for the DCU to build on and could even lead to the Paradise Lost spinoff finally happening. Wonder Woman‘s debut is coming soon.

The Wonder Woman franchise is part of the larger DC Extended Universe (DCEU), focusing on Diana Prince, an Amazonian princess and warrior who becomes the superhero Wonder Woman. The franchise began with the 2017 film Wonder Woman, which was a critical and commercial success, followed by Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020. These films explore Diana’s origins, her role in world conflicts, and her personal journey in adapting to the world of humans. The franchise is known for its strong feminist themes, action-packed sequences, and its portrayal of Wonder Woman as a symbol of peace and justice.
