New Batman & Wonder Woman Movie Updates Provided By James Gunn & Warner Bros. CEO

New DC Universe updates on The Brave and The Bold and Wonder Woman movies are shared from James Gunn and David Zaslav. The DCU franchise has kicked off, with Superman now playing in theaters; more DCU movies and TV shows are in the works, including The Brave and The Bold (starring Batman) and a Wonder Woman movie.

In a new interview with NY Times, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, discussed Superman’s opening success, praising the work of Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO, Peter Safran, for what they are doing with the DCU. During the interview, Zaslav reaffirmed that Wonder Woman and Batman’s respective reboots are in the works:

David Zaslav: Our biggest strategic opportunity was that DC was underdeveloped. Now we have Gunn and Safran firing with a 10-year plan. ‘Supergirl’ has already been sH๏τ. They’re working on Wonder Woman. They’re working on Batman.

In a separate interview with Urbana Play, Gunn was asked when the DCU audience may see Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne in the franchise. While not sharing a specific time-frame, Gunn stressed that The Brave and The Bold and Wonder Woman are still being written, and that it’s only when the scripts are finalized that filming will go forward:

James Gunn: It’s not gonna be ’till the script is ready. Both of the scripts are being written now, and if they’re good, then we’ll go to production immediately. So, it really depends on how we can get the scripts done. Because the one thing I’m just not gonna do is go into production without a script I feel is fantastic — especially for those characters, who deserve the best. I’d rather wait a year than go too soon.

What David Zaslav & James Gunn’s Batman & Wonder Woman Comments Mean

The respective statements from Gunn and Zaslav go to show that, after how Superman has been received, the strategy for the Batman and Wonder Woman movies will get the same treatment. Rather than trying to race towards the clock, DC Studios is remaining committed to properly giving the creative teams the time needed to craft the perfect stories before casting even begins.

Even if it takes a few years, the wait will clearly be worth it. Batman and Wonder Woman are some of DC’s most crucial characters, especially for the DCU franchise that aims to avoid the mistakes of the DCEU movie timeline. There are also other DCU projects coming up that will keep the audience invested in the franchise in the meantime, allowing other characters to shine.

Our Take On David Zaslav & James Gunn’s Batman & Wonder Woman Comments

Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck suited up as Wonder Woman and Batman in the DCEU

Gunn and Zaslav clearly understand the importance of Batman and Wonder Woman, so it will be exciting to see their arrival in the DCU once their respective movies are ready to start casting and filming. Since DC Studios also has the Paradise Lost TV show in the works, viewers will still get to visit Wonder Woman’s mythology, should the prequel happen before the film.

The Brave and The Bold needs to be handled with particularly care, given the DCU featured an established Dark Knight and the Bat-Family; the concept will surely need time to be developed. Hopefully, we’ll get more updates on The Brave and The Bold and Wonder Woman as the year continues and these decisions are made.
