Wicked Director & Ariana Grande Reuniting For Movie Adaptation Of Dr. Seuss’ Final Book

Ariana Grande-Butera and Wicked director Jon M. Chu are reuniting, and this time they are adapting Dr. Seuss’ final book. In many Wicked reviews, Chu’s direction and Grande-Butera’s portrayal of Glinda are two of the most celebrated aspects of the Broadway musical adaptation.

In addition to the critical acclaim, Grande-Butera received an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Glinda. Wicked‘s box office was also an undeniable success, with the film grossing more than $755 million worldwide and approximately $473 million domestically.

With the 2024 movie only being the first half of the adaptation, Grande-Butera and Chu’s collaboration is set to continue this November with the release of Wicked: For Good, which will conclude the emotional story of Glinda, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), and Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey).

Chu already has several projects lined up after Wicked: For Good, including a Britney Spears biopic and a movie based on the H๏τ Wheels toys. Now, Chu has yet another film in the works, and this one includes Grande-Butera.

Josh Gad Is Starring As Well

Chu and Grande-Butera are leaving Oz behind for Dr. Seuss as they adapt Oh, the Places You’ll Go! The beloved children’s picture book, which was first published in 1990, was the final Dr. Seuss book released before the author pᴀssed away at the age of 87. A screenplay adaptation was previously written by Richard LaGravenese and Barry Berman, but the project never went into production.

As per Warner Bros. and The Hollywood Reporter, the animated Oh, the Places You’ll Go is directed by Chu and Jill Culton and stars Grande-Butera and Josh Gad. The script is being written by Rob Liebner, the original songs are being written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and J.J. Abrams and Gregg Taylor are producers on the project.

Oh, The Places You’ll Go! will have a theatrical release, including in IMAX, and will debut on March 17, 2028. Check out images of Grande-Butera and Gad in the recording studio below:

Our Take On Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

This Is A Fitting Team For An Animated Movie Adaptation

Ariana Grande as Glinda looking confused in Wicked

While there are many Dr. Seuss movies, and some of his books have been adapted multiple times, this will be the first Oh, the Places You’ll Go! movie. Chu and Grande-Butera are well-suited to bringing the story’s whimsical tone to life, along with Pasek and Paul’s original songs, and they have the potential to make this collaboration yet another success.
