Disney Live-Action Remake Set To Hit A Box Office Milestone No Hollywood Movie Has Reached In 2025

Lilo & Sтιтch is fast approaching a critical box office milestone that would mark a first for 2025 Hollywood films. The movie is Disney’s latest attempt at a live-action remake of a beloved animated classic. Lilo & Sтιтch has gotten great reviews overall, and a sequel is already in the works.

Lilo & Sтιтch opened to a stunning $146 million upon its release over Memorial Day weekend this year. This opening was far higher than the entire domestic gross of Snow White, the company’s previous 2025 live-action remake. Combined with its critical reviews, the box office has helped cement Lilo & Sтιтch as a huge success.

As per Box Office Mojo, Lilo & Sтιтch is now startlingly close to its next milestone. At the time of writing, the live-action remake has made $994.2 million worldwide, putting it less than $6 million away from the $1 billion mark. As it continues its box office momentum, it is almost sure to reach this coveted milestone.

What This Means For Lilo & Sтιтch

No Other Hollywood Movie Has Gotten To $1 Billion This Year

When Lilo & Sтιтch crosses $1 billion worldwide, it will become the first Hollywood film to do so in 2025. It will not be the first movie overall to do so, as the Chinese animated feature film Ne Zha 2 made well over $1 billion upon its release this winter. However, it did so primarily in its home country.

Initially, some thought that A Minecraft Movie would cross $1 billion. After all, the film’s domestic opening was even higher than Lilo & Sтιтch‘s, bringing in $162.7 million during the first weekend. Despite the initial craze, however, the movie fell short, making $955 million overall.

It will likely be a while before another movie crosses $1 billion in 2025. Jurᴀssic World Rebirth was expected to do those kinds of numbers prior to its release, but with a $92 million opening, its growth may be slower than its predecessors.

Our Take On The Lilo & Sтιтch Milestone

This Is Good News For Disney

Lilo & Sтιтch‘s latest box office milestone is good news for the future of Disney’s live-action adaptations. Some may have lost faith in the studio after Snow White had a lackluster overall performance, not impressing either critics or audiences.

In other instances, however, Disney has seen huge success with their remakes. This includes тιтles like 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, which made $1.2 billion worldwide.

Beauty and the Beast proved what Disney was capable of with their live-action remakes, and Lilo & Sтιтch has only cemented that argument. Disney already has several live-action movies coming down the pike, including Moana. Lilo & Sтιтch audiences will go into future adaptations more confident about the company’s work in this format.
