Across the board, the cast of The Bear have numerous notable тιтles in their careers. Star Jeremy Allen White was no stranger to the small screen even before the Hulu series, having previously played Lip Gallagher on Shameless. Since debuting as Carmy, he has appeared in films such as The Iron Claw.
Another notable Bear actor is Ayo Edebiri. Getting her start in stand-up comedy and writing, Edebiri has contributed her talents in multiple ways throughout her career. In 2023, she starred in the raunchy teen comedy Bottoms. While the movie made just $12.9 million worldwide, the film was well-reviewed and gained a significant following.
Last year, Edebiri was a voice actor in Inside Out 2. The film was well-received by critics and became the highest-grossing movie in Edebiri’s career by a long sH๏τ. It made just under $1.7 billion worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time.
Not all of Edebiri’s work outside The Bear has been nearly this successful. In fact, she had one flop just earlier this year. Despite the movie’s lackluster box office, however, the film is currently doing well on streaming.
Opus Is A Streaming Hit
It Was A Box Office Bomb
Opus is now doing well on the streaming charts. Released in March, the movie is a psychological drama from A24. It follows the story of a writer (Edebiri) who travels to meet a reclusive pop icon (John Malkovich) at his compound, but in the process discovers the star has darker plans for the gathering.
Opus was made on a modest $10 million budget, but did not even come close to making that back at the box office. The film made just $2.1 million worldwide, representing a huge flop for Edebiri and for A24. It did not help that the distributor followed this up with Death of a Unicorn, which also had lukewarm results.
As per FlixPatrol, Opus is now doing well on the streaming charts. The film is the no. 2 тιтle on HBO Max’s Top 10 movies in the United States today, July 14. It comes in behind only Ryan Coogler’s sensational Sinners.
What This Means For Opus
The Movie Can Get A Second Chance
This success comes just a few days after Opus was released to Max on July 11. This means that viewers have been quick to watch the A24 film now that it’s on streaming. In the coming days, it could maintain this position as it grows on the platform.
This streaming success will give Opus a chance to redeem itself. The movie prompted a mixed response from fans before, scoring a 60% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. With some more time and streaming availability, however, the film could develop a following that it was not able to in theaters, and it looks like that process is already beginning.
