Disney is known for releasing numerous hit franchise films. These include, of course, various Pixar movies, which boast franchises including Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles. These animated films tend to be extremely successful at the box office when they hit theaters.
In the past decade, Disney appears to be focusing more heavily on their live-action works than in previous times. Most prominently, this includes live-action adaptations of existing animated films. Just this year, the studio released live-action adaptations of Lilo & Sтιтch and Snow White, the former of which has been a huge box office hit.
As much as the company focuses on theatrical features, the producer has also distributed a number of Disney Channel and streaming-only тιтles. This includes the Descendants franchise, which began as a Disney Channel original movie in 2015. A new Descendants movie is currently in the works.
While the wait for Descendants 5 continues, Disney has released a sequel to another one of their non-theatrical franchises. Now, the whole series, including the most recent тιтle, is a streaming hit.
The Zombies Franchise Is A Streaming Hit
The Newest Film Is No. 1 On The Charts
The Zombies movies are now doing incredibly well on streaming. The Disney musical series began a couple of years after Descendants kicked off, with the first movie released in 2018. The films follow the culture clash that takes place when students from Zombietown are transferred to a traditional suburban high school.
The Disney series released its fourth installment recently. Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires debuted on Disney Channel on July 10, and went to Disney+ the following day on July 11. The sequel film featured some original characters, while also experiencing a new set of monsters following their first year of college.
As per Disney+, the entire Zombies franchise is now doing well on the platform. This is led by Zombies 4, which has taken the no. 1 spot on the Top 10 chart in the United States. To make matters more impressive, all four Zombies movies are currently in the top spots on Disney+.
Leading the older releases is Zombies, which is in the no. 2 slot. This is followed by Zombies 2 and then Zombies 3, which are in the no. 3 and no. 4 slots, respectively.
What This Means For The Zombies Franchise
Zombies 5 Is Looking More Likely
The recent Zombies success proves that this is an extremely viable franchise for Disney. These Disney Channel originals are topping even more established Disney films on the platform, many of which have name recognition for their theatrical releases. This is a promising sign for the prospect of Zombies 5, which is not yet confirmed.
