Jurᴀssic World Rebirth continues to be a box office hit and has officially grossed more than a popular Jason Statham action movie from 2018. Even though reviews for Jurᴀssic World Rebirth have been quite disappointing, its box office dominance proves that audiences still want to see dinosaurs on the big screen.
There are definitely a lot of dinosaurs in the franchise’s newest movie, such as the T-rex, spinosaurus’, the mosasaurus, and new hybrid dinosaurs like the D-rex and Mutadons. Ever since Rebirth’s release, audiences and critics have complained that the hybrid dinosaurs are underwhelming, and have also noted that the film has a predictable story and weak characters.
Despite these criticisms, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth has been a major box office success. As of this writing, it has grossed $529,462,710 globally (via Box Office Mojo). The Jurᴀssic Park franchise’s newest movie has officially surpᴀssed the worldwide box office haul of Statham’s The Meg, another popular monster movie. Throughout its theatrical run, The Meg grossed $529,243,742 at the box office (via Box Office Mojo).
What Surpᴀssing The Meg Means For Jurᴀssic World Rebirth
Audiences Still Love Dinosaurs
Even though surpᴀssing The Meg is noteworthy for Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, it is not necessarily a surprise. After all, Rebirth is part of a major movie franchise, whereas Statham’s 2018 film was a completely original monster movie. However, grossing more than The Meg is a good sign for the future of the Jurᴀssic World series.
The last three Jurᴀssic World movies have all grossed over $1 billion at the box office, and now Rebirth is over halfway there.
After The Meg’s impressive box office haul, a sequel was greenlit. Therefore, it would be very surprising if a sequel to Rebirth was not announced soon. Since the movie’s main characters, such as Zora, Henry, and Duncan, all survived the intense ending of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, it would not be surprising if they were brought back for the next film.
Even though reviews for Rebirth have not been ideal, it would be shocking if Universal abandoned the long-running franchise now. The last three Jurᴀssic World movies have all grossed over $1 billion at the box office, and now Rebirth is over halfway there. It may not end up hitting the $1 billion mark, but it is still undoubtedly a major financial success.
Our Take On Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Surpᴀssing The Meg’s Total Box Office
The Jurᴀssic Park Franchise Is The King Of The Monster Movies
Even though neither of The Meg movies received great reviews, they are both very entertaining action films. Similarly, even though fans and critics have raised many complaints about Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, there is still a lot to like in the movie. For example, it’s always great to see dinosaurs on the big screen and some sequences, such as the T-rex river chase scene, are very well-executed.
Therefore, while I was personally underwhelmed by the newest Jurᴀssic World movie, I’m glad it has pᴀssed The Meg and continues to get people in theater seats. Jurᴀssic World Rebirth may not be the best blockbuster of the summer, but I definitely don’t want it to mark the end of the long-running franchise.
