Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s Box Office Beats 25-Year-Old Dinosaur Movie That Has A Better RT Score

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth has surpᴀssed a 25-year-old dinosaur movie at the box office. The latest Jurᴀssic Park entry, following the commercial success of Jurᴀssic World Dominion, is directed by Gareth Edwards and explores secluded equatorial zones housing dinosaurs, where humans attempt to recover their DNA .

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s impressive cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend. Having premiered on July 2, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth managed to exceed early box office predictions, despite having a low Rotten Tomatoes score, which presently stands at 52%.

Rebirth has continued climbing the Top Lifetime chart, according to Box Office Mojo. Prior to the second weekend numbers being released, Rebirth ranked 413 out of 1,000, and after reaching over $378 million globally, it sat right behind True Lies and Godzilla.

The Jurᴀssic World Rebirth box office success has also caused the film to pᴀss Dinosaur, the 3D-animated Disney movie from 2000, which generated $349.8 million.

What This Means For Jurᴀssic World Rebirth

The Dinosaur Movie Is Continues To Be A Box Office Hit

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth will amᴀss more money before its theatrical window closes. Opening for the Fourth of July weekend in the United States, it earned over $147 million domestically from Wednesday through Sunday. Rebirth also generated an impressive $318 million globally following its first weekend of release.

While Rebirth is trailing previous Jurᴀssic World movies at the box office, all of which grossed more than $1 billion, the film has become one of the best-performing of 2025. As interest expands, and it continues to play theatrically, the newest Jurᴀssic Park installment will still have time to add to its worldwide total.

Rebirth was better received than Jurᴀssic World: Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, which earned franchise low RT scores of 47% and 29%, respectively.

In terms of critical reception, while the 52% on Rotten Tomatoes may be low, it is the fourth-highest score in the franchise. That places the film behind the original Jurᴀssic Park and Jurᴀssic World (achieving the only fresh ratings at 91% and 72%) and the 1997 sequel The Lost World, which earned a 56%.

Our Take On Rebirth Beating Dinosaur

Audiences Prefer The Jurᴀssic Park Franchise

Considering the popularity of Jurᴀssic Park, it is not hard to imagine Jurᴀssic World Rebirth pᴀssing Dinosaur at the box office, despite Dinosaur receiving a 65% Tomatometer score. However, because the film, depicting an orphaned dino who was raised by lemurs, came from Disney, it may be surprising that it did not make more money given recent standards.

The disparity of Popcornmeter scores could also indicate that broad audiences prefer the more intense Jurᴀssic Park franchise. Compared to the disappointing 48% of Dinosaur, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth currently has a 71% Popcornmeter, and if moviegoers continue seeing it, the latest entry will surpᴀss many more films at the box office in the weeks ahead.
