One Star Is The Biggest Netflix Winner This Summer (& It’s Not Even Close)

Netflix has long been one of the biggest players in the streaming service landscape, and even though a lot of their projects have missed the mark quality-wise in recent years, right now, the company is enjoying a summer that has been filled with a ton of well-received projects in many different genres and styles.

While Netflix seems like much more of a revolving door these days than it has ever been, with mᴀssive, big-budget movies and shows showing up and then being immediately forgotten about, two recent projects from the streaming giant have managed to make their way into the wider cultural lexicon.

Interestingly, while the two projects in question don’t have any direct relation to each other, they both share an actor in one of the major roles, making him easily the biggest actor on the platform right now, and a level of stardom that will surely only continue to rise on Netflix.

Lee Byung-hun Is Dominating Netflix With The Top Movie & Show Simultaneously

KPop Demon Hunters & Squid Game Season 3 Are Topping Their Respective Charts

On Netflix, Lee Byung-hun is probably best known for his role as Hwang In-ho, also known as the Front Man from Squid Game, who acts as the main antagonist of the entire show throughout its three seasons. However, Lee himself only became a major part of the series in seasons 2 and 3.

As Squid Game season 3 has just been released on the platform, bringing the exceptionally popular series to an end, the show has once again been topping the Netflix TV charts, maintaining the incredible level of popularity that the show has seen since its very first outing.

On the movie side, Lee also voiced a character in KPop Demon Hunters, which was also released on Netflix a few weeks ago, as the company continues to move away from theatrical releases for every project. The supernatural movie has been completely dominating Netflix’s movie charts since its release and has even gone on to become a sensation due to its catchy soundtrack.

As one of the major characters in both of these projects, Lee Byung-hun has had an incredible run on Netflix, coincidentally as the main villain of these two very different IPs.

In KPop Demon Hunters, Lee played Gwi Ma, the king of the demons, who acted as the overarching antagonist for the movie. While he didn’t get all that much screen time, as the Saja Boys, specifically Jinu, received the most amount of focus, he did play a fairly significant role in the film.

As one of the major characters in both of these projects, Lee has had an incredible run on Netflix, coincidentally as the main villain of these two very different IPs. They were released at nearly the same time, and both have been constantly on their top 3 lists since their debuts.

Squid Game season 3 was released in its entirety on June 27, and is currently the number one TV show worldwide, while KPop Demon Hunters was released on June 20, and is currently the number two movie globally, behind The Old Guard 2.

As Lee is a Korean actor, and both of these were Korean-focused projects, even though Demon Hunters wasn’t actually produced in Korea, they are a good example of Korean projects being on the rise in Western culture. Thus, Netflix continues to be one of the biggest providers of such media.
