That Superman Krypto Scene Was Shocking, But It Was Almost Even Worse

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Superman.Krypto is one of the stars of Superman, and the DC movie had a shocking moment with the superdog that could have been even worse. Superman‘s cast of characters includes quite a few players with powers. That might be mostly focused on the Justice Gang and Superman, but Krypto plays a key role in the film, being ever-present in the narrative.

That means Krypto gets in on the action throughout DC’s Superman film. One of the movie’s most exciting aspects was following the dynamic between Krypto and Superman. He might have only been watching the dog for his cousin, Supergirl, but it is clear that the two formed a bond. I loved Krypto, which is why a fight scene was shocking.

Krypto’s Fight With The Engineer Led To A Shocking Moment

Krypto might have destroyed part of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude early in the movie, but the dog was playing, as one should. However, the Man of Steel’s home would soon get invaded for real by Lex Luthor, the Engineer, Ultraman, and Eve Teschmacher. As expected, that leads to a major fight sequence with Ultraman and the Engineer destroying the Superman Robots.

It was sad to see them trashing the place that meant so much to David Corenswet’s Superman. However, nothing could have prepared me for what role Krypto would play in the invasion. The Superdog put up a fight to defend the Fortress and attacked the intruders. However, the Engineer proved to be too much for him.

After being attacked by him, the Engineer launched her nanites on Krypto. We could see the Superdog suffocate and whimper as the nanites spread over his face. The moment was dark, and it led to Krypto being tortured by Lex Luthor in his pocket dimension to learn more about his physiology. It turns out the scene could have been even worse.

James Gunn Cut A Worse Krypto Scene Due To A Meaningful Reason

The DC Universe Movie Would Have Seen The Character Get Hurt

Ultraman never directly engaged Krypto in the Fortress of Solitude invasion. However, he would have initially attacked the Superdog. DC’s Superman movie cut a scene of Ultraman punching Krypto. The reveal came from Engineer actress María Gabriela de Faría and Eve Teschmacher star Sara Sampaio in an interview with Jake’s Takes to promote Superman‘s release.

According to the actresses, Ultraman punching Krypto was cut because it performed terribly in the test screening. Having watched Superman, I can understand why it was cut. The Engineer launching her nanites on Krypto, and the sounds he makes are already quite dark. Had Ultraman seriously hurt the Superdog, it would have been too much. Superman made Krypto’s injury lighter.
