Netflix’s New Sci-Fi Mystery Thriller With 31% RT Score Quickly Rises Major Streaming Chart In Just Two Days

The new Netflix mystery thriller has debuted with strong viewership. The streaming service’s library is so robust that not every Netflix original movie or TV show is automatically destined to become a hit. However, some perform at the level of major blockbusters.

In fact, all of the Top 5 most-watched Netflix movies of all time have been viewed more than 150 million times apiece. That roster includes Bird Box, The Adam Project, Don’t Look Up, and Carry-On, with the star-studded action-comedy Red Notice topping the chart with a whopping 230.9 million viewers.

Brick Is Already Performing Well On Streaming

The New German Mystery Thriller Stars A Netflix Regular

Brick has quickly climbed a major streaming chart. The German thriller follows couple Tim (Matthias Schweighöfer, an alumnus of many Netflix movies, including 2021’s Army of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ and Army of Thieves, plus 2023’s Heart of Stone and Family Switch) and Olivia (Army of Thieves‘ Ruby O. Fee) waking up to find themselves trapped in their apartment by a mysterious brick wall.

The movie has received mixed to negative reviews. At the time of writing, Rotten Tomatoes has aggregated 16 different critics’ reviews, which have earned the movie a splat with a thoroughly Rotten score of 31%.

This has been the case in spite of the fact that ScreenRant‘s own Ben Gibbons gave it a score of 7 out of 10. Read an excerpt from his Brick review below:

Alongside a wonderful cast, the film delivers a compelling and dramatic narrative with a touch of sci-fi magic. More than the actual plot, the dynamics between the characters define Brick and give it weight and gravitas that make it stand out.

Just two days after it premiered on the platform on July 10, Brick debuted at No. 3 on the daily Top 10 movies chart on Netflix in the United States. It has only fallen behind their new animated hit KPop Demon Hunters (at No. 1) and their documentary Trainwreck: The Real Project X. Additionally, it’s the only non-English тιтle on the chart.

What This Means For Brick

It Has An Uncertain Future

The fact that Brick is competing well on the chart is remarkable, because non-English тιтles do not always hit big with U.S. audiences. However, it remains to be seen how long this particular тιтle remains on the chart, or if it can climb any higher.

While the new Netflix movie was lambasted by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences have treated it even worse. At the time of writing, more than 50 user reviews (with an average score of 2.2 out of 5) have earned Brick a Popcornmeter score of 28%. This general dissatisfaction may prevent the movie from becoming a proper word-of-mouth hit.
