4-Time Grammy Winner’s Favorite Star Wars Movie Is The One Many Fans Wish George Lucas Had Cut

Four-time Grammy Award winner Ed Sheeran has revealed his favorite Star Wars movie. Ed Sheeran has long had a reputation for being a Star Wars fan; the award-winning musician even made two cameos in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, playing a First Order stormtrooper and an alien named Engi Golba.

Speaking in an interview on Not Gonna Lie With Kylie Kelce, Sheeran revealed he has a surprising choice for a favorite Star Wars movie – a controversial choice many fans have actually tried to cut from the saga. “I think Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is my favorite,” he revealed. “I know that’s unpopular, but I was eight when it came out, and I really liked it… I liked Jar Jar Binks.

The Phantom Menace Is Indeed A Controversial Choice For Star Wars

Some Viewers Even Want To Cut It Completely

Sheeran is right; The Phantom Menace is probably the most controversial choice among George Lucas’ movies. It was originally slated by older viewers, and it was so heavily criticized that one Star Wars viewing order – that plays around with the timeline to try to preserve the sense of mystery – actually cut it completely.

The Machete Viewing Order

A New Hope

The Empire Strikes Back

Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith

Return of the Jedi

But The Phantom Menace‘s reputation has improved as the prequel generation has come of age. Sheeran’s comments are now by no means unusual; he speaks for many when he professes his love for it.

Even Jar Jar Binks Has Been Redeemed

He’s A Lot More Bombad

Even Jar Jar Binks’ reputation has been enhanced over time, with mo-cap and voice actor Ahmed Best returning to Star Wars in a new form – as Jedi Master Kelleran Beq. Perhaps the most entertaining Jar Jar legacy can be found in the LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy shorts, which featured Darth Jar Jar – the Gungan as a Sith Lord.

No doubt Ed Sheeran quite appreciated that.
