New Masters Of The Universe Movie Isn’t Even Trying To Replace 1 Character From Dolph Lundgren’s Original

The new Masters of the Universe live-action reboot is one of the most interesting projects coming out in the next few years, as it is set to return the franchise to the big screen in a way that hasn’t been seen in nearly 40 years, since the original live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren made its way to theaters.

While little has been revealed about the new movie itself, Masters of the Universe‘s cast is full of a number of well-known names, alongside some lesser-known actors, even in the lead role as He-Man himself, who is being played by relative newcomer Nicholas Galitzine, mostly known for a number of streaming romance films like Amazon’s The Idea of You.

However, while many classic Masters of the Universe characters are going to show up, there is one character in particular, who was one of the main characters in the original live-action film, who is seemingly going to be completely absent from this new version of the film.

2026’s Masters Of The Universe Doesn’t Include A Version Of Courteney Cox’s Julie

The Character Had A Big Role In The 1987 Live-Action Film

Courteney Cox looks around in Masters of the Universe

Julie Winston, played by Courteney Cox, was one of the main characters in the 1987 Masters of the Universe. She was a regular human, living on Earth, who, due to the events of the film, became caught up in the way between the good forces of Eternia and Skeletor.

In all the reveals so far about the new Masters of the Universe, there has been no mention of a character named Julie, nor have there been any other new characters announced that could fit the same role of being an outsider exposed to the world and people of Eternia for the first time.

Masters Of The Universe Not Replacing Julie Makes Sense

There’s No Need For Her To Reappear Now

For people only familiar with the live-action film, this could be seen as odd, but Julie was a character created specifically for that movie, and didn’t exist in any Masters of the Universe media beforehand, as the majority of the Masters of the Universe franchise is set in the fictional world of Eternia.

The new Masters of the Universe movie is set to be theatrically released on June 5, 2026.

With that in mind, the new movie seems to be going for a much more faithful recreation of the original animated series, as opposed to the film, which felt like the filmmakers were somewhat embarrᴀssed by the original, and wanted to try and make their version more relatable.

Regardless of the reasoning, the fact that the new movie isn’t a direct sequel to the other live-action attempt is a good thing, as even though plenty of people like that version, staying true to the original Masters of the Universe will not only earn some goodwill with the fans, but also introduce people to a more complete version of the franchise.
