Netflix is not the best streaming service for film franchises, but that has not stopped them from making an effort. Earlier this month, they just released The Old Guard 2, a sequel to their acclaimed 2020 sci-fi film.
Other Netflix franchises include the Fear Street movies. The first three movies in this horror franchise have been well-received, with the fourth movie receiving a more lackluster response. In addition to going for a franchise, Netflix has forged partnerships with some key creators. One such person is Tyler Perry, who made a first-look film deal with Netflix back in 2023.
So far, this has been pretty successful for the streamer. Just this year, Perry released the film Straw, which became a mᴀssive Netflix hit for several weeks. Pretty soon, Netflix is releasing another Perry movie that will continue the streamer’s efforts in franchises.
Madea’s Destination Wedding Releases On Netflix This Friday
It Is The Franchise’s 13th Film
Madea’s Destination Wedding will be released on July 11. This comedy will be the 13th installment in the franchise. The character originated from the 2005 film Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Madea got her first standalone movie with Madea’s Family Reunion in 2006.
In this latest installment, Madea attends Tiffany’s last-minute destination wedding in the Bahamas. Tensions rise in the family as Tiffany begins to have doubts about her husband-to-be, leading to comedic chaos.
Madea’s Destination Wedding will be the second Madea movie to release directly on Netflix. The first was A Madea Homecoming, which hit the streamer in February 2022. Perry’s latest will offer Netflix the chance to work on another franchise, hopefully with success.
Do You Need To Watch The Previous 12 Madea Movies To Watch Destination Wedding?
It Will Probably Be Pretty Easy To Understand Regardless
Madea has become a mᴀssive franchise at this point, so it would take a long time to play catch-up with all the previous films in the franchise. In fact, 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the goofy character. While A Madea Homecoming was a Netflix release, not all the films are even available on Netflix, making them harder to catch.
However, those interested in Madea’s Destination Wedding don’t need to worry. While the film will include characters from previous films and likely build on those dynamics, the franchise is made up of comedies that are typically pretty self-contained and easy to follow.
For this reason, Madea’s Destination Wedding can be watched alone. If audiences really want to be tuned in to what is going on with the character, it would be best to at least watch A Madea Homecoming. But either way, Madea’s Destination Wedding is sure to be another fun romp from Perry in his Netflix deal.
