10 Ridiculously Rare Cars In The Fast & Furious Movies

Since the first film debuted in 2001, the Fast and Furious movies have made a name for themselves as an action-packed racing franchise. Car chases and epic stunts are synonymous with Fast and Furious, as Dominic Toretto and his family face various threats while driving some pretty cool cars, whether that be popular imports or rare and limited-edition vehicles.

From modern ultra-rare hypercars to classic gems, there is a wide range of vehicles that feature in the Fast and Furious movies, either at the center of the action or via cameo appearance, and some of these are quite rare. However, there are also some ridiculously rare cars in the franchise, with fewer than 1000 models put into production.

1969 Dodge Charger Daytona

Appears In: Fast & Furious 6

Following the previous year’s failure at NASCAR, the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was created to be a high-performance and limited-edition version of the Dodge Charger created for winning NASCAR races. Featuring a 23-inch-tall stabilizer wing and special “nose cone”, the Daytona is a rather iconic-looking car. However, the car is also very rare, as only 503 Daytonas were created.

Dominic Toretto drove this car in Fast & Furious 6 after Tej Parker bought all the cars at the auction. Dom drove the Daytona during the street race with Letty and during the tank chase in Spain, where it was damaged. Seven Chargers were modified for Fast and Furious, but, according to H๏τ Rod, only three and a half survived filming.

2011 Lexus LFA

Appears In: Fast Five

The Lexus LFA was made by Japanese carmaker Toyota, and debuted in 2010. Made of 65% carbon fibre-reinforced polymer, it’s capable of 0-97 km/h (60 mph) in 3.6 seconds, with a maximum speed of 325 km/h (202 mph). Despite receiving several awards, production ended two years after it commenced with only 500 units, due to Lexus LFA’s customization.

Interestingly, unlike some of the other rare cars in the Fast movies, the LFA was real and not a replica.

A 2011 Lexus LFA had a minor appearance at the end of Fast Five, when Han drove with Gisele along a highway towards Berlin. After the couple speed off, the car doesn’t appear again in the Fast and Furious franchise. Interestingly, unlike some of the other rare cars in the Fast movies, the LFA was real and not a replica.

2011 Bugatti Veyron

Appears In: Furious 7

Considering Bugatti’s notoriety, it’s no surprise the Fast and Furious franchise decided to feature the car in their films. The Bugatti Veyron which features in Furious 7 is the EB Veyron 16.4 version, which, according to Bugatti, has a top speed of 407 km/h, and is able to reach 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds.

Unfortunately, the Bugatti Veyron doesn’t have much screen time at all, which is a shame considering how rare the car is, with only 252 units of the Veyron 16.4 produced between 2005 and 2011. The Bugatti Veyron made a minor appearance in Furious 7, when Roman drove the white car in Abu Dhabi after racing through the desert.

1965 Ford GT40

Appears In: Fast Five

Possibly one of the most notable and well-loved cars in the Fast and Furious franchise, the 1965 Ford GT40 is also a rare vehicle, and that is partly due to the car’s legendary status. Its four consecutive wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans propelled the GT40 to widespread fame. Only 105 were built, with limited street versions.

As the GT40s were all one-off, RHD race cars, and authentic ones sold for $1.5 million, the GT40 in Fast 5 was actually a replica built for the movie.

A blue Ford GT40 appeared in Fast 5, as one of the DEA-seized cars the Fast and Furious team planned to steal. After contract killer Zizi tells his men the GT40 is his, Dom tells Mia to drive it to their hideout. This causes a fight, a derailed train, a Corvette’s destruction, and Dom and Brian’s capture by Hernan Reyes.

Local Motors Rally Fighter

Appears In: The Fate Of The Furious

The Rally Fighter by Local Motors is an American off-road buggy and the first car to be developed using co-creation design. The Rally Fighter was designed via crowdsourcing and an interested Internet community, becoming an open-source vehicle. As they are technically kit cars, it’s uncertain how many Rally Fighters were produced, although it’s estimated to be between 50 and 100.

This street-legal rally raider featured in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, when Letty Ortiz used it to apprehend Cipher and escape the submarine.

This street-legal rally raider featured in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, when Letty Ortiz used it to apprehend Cipher and escape the submarine. The Rally Fighter in the film had a gray body with red bull bars and top-mounted lights. Unfortunately, the Local Motor Rally Fighter doesn’t appear again in the franchise, although it survived its time on-screen.

5

Ferrari FXX

Appears In: Fast & Furious 6

Created exclusively for use on Ferrari-chosen private tracks by selected clients, the Ferrari FXX is a supercar which improved on the Ferrari Enzo. Just 29 cars were built by Ferrari at a price of €1.3 million ($1.5 million), with the 30th and final model going to Ferrari’s F1 driver at the time, Michael Schumacher, making them extremely rare.

The extreme exclusivity of the Ferrari FXX was made prominent when Michael Schumacher famously pretended to be the Stig in Top Gear, as he was the only one allowed to drive his custom Ferrari FXX.

As a result of their limited production, Fast and Furious were unable to secure a Ferrari XX for their movies. That being said, a red and white Ferrari XX belonging to Tej Parker did appear for a few seconds near the start of Fast & Furious 6. However, it was revealed that it was actually a Ferrari Enzo kit car.

4

Apollo Intensa Emozione (IE)

Appears In: F9

Based on LaFerrari, the Apollo Intensa Emozione is an extremely rare sports car. The IE is capable of accelerating 0-97 km/h (60 mph) in 2.7 seconds, and has a top speed of 335 km/h (208 mph). Priced at a staggering $2.67 million, according to Apollo, only 10 were produced, all of which have reportedly been sold.

The Intensa Emozione only appeared in a minor capacity in F9 and can be seen at billionaire Otto’s party in his mansion in England. Surprisingly, the IE is the real deal, as Dennis McCarthy (Picture Car Coordinator for the Fast and Furious movies) invited more than a dozen private car collectors to show off their vehicles in the F9 scene.

3

W Motors Lykan Hypersport

Appears In: Furious 7

As the first sports car to be designed indigenously in the Middle East, W Motors’ Lykan HyperSport is a special vehicle. At $3.4 million, the HyperSport was the third most expensive production car at the time, and for good reason. There were only seven Lykan HyperSports produced, and buyers had the option of customizing the car with diamond-encrusted headlights.

W Motors helped build 10 replicas of the Lykan HyperSport for Furious 7. Only one survived filming.

The Lykan HyperSport is probably the best car in Fast and Furiousseventh installment, which makes its fate even more tragic. Dom recklessly drove the Lykan through three Abu Dhabi skyscrapers before bailing out, sending it crashing to the concrete. Thankfully, the Furious 7’s destroyed Lykan HyperSport was only one of 10 replicas W Motors created for the film.

2

Eagle Speedster

Appears In: Fast & Furious 6

The Eagle Speedster is a bespoke custom-built car based on the classic Jaguar E-Type (the XKE). Each car is built to order, offering its customers slightly different modifications, and according to Eagle, only seven Speedsters have ever been made, making them extremely rare. Interestingly, the first Speedster was actually built as a special one-off commission, but its popularity increased demand.

The black Eagle Speedster can be seen as part of Tej Parker’s collection of cars that he bought at auction to prove his wealth.

The Speedster briefly made an appearance in Fast & Furious 6, but, unfortunately, was never actually driven on-screen. The black Eagle Speedster can be seen as part of Tej Parker’s collection of cars that he bought at auction to prove his wealth. Its current status and whereabouts are unknown, as the custom Eagle does not appear again in the franchise.

1

Koenigsegg CCXR

Appears In: Fast Five

The most ridiculously rare car which appears in the Fast and Furious franchise is the 2010 Koenigsegg CCXR. Koenigsegg describes the CCXR as “a CCX with “Flower Power” added, as it could also run on renewable fuel such as E85 ethanol, making it the world’s first green supercar.” The CCXR Special Edition was the final variant in this limited range.

The CCXR appeared in Fast Five and was driven by Roman Pearce, who purchased it after the vault heist. As Roman says, “There’s only four of those cars in the whole world,” making the CCXR the rarest car in Fast and Furious. Roman claimed he had the only one in the Western Hemisphere. However, Tej revealed he’d also purchased one.
