The new Ben Affleck movie has broken a major streaming record. The actor, writer, and director first became a major star off the back of his Oscar-winning 1997 movie Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with his co-star Matt Damon.
Since then, many Ben Affleck movies have become critical and commercial successes. In addition to 18 of his movies being Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, he has won two Oscars, one for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting and one for Best Picture for Argo, which he directed, produced, and starred in.
Altogether, movies in which he has starred have grossed more than $6.4 billion worldwide. While his highest-grossing movie is Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice ($874.4 million), other notable Affleck hits include Armageddon ($554.6 million), Peal Harbor ($449.2 million), and Gone Girl ($367.1 million). Now, a new streaming hit has added to the star’s long roster of successes.
The Accountant 2 Is Performing Extremely Well On Prime Video
Millions Of People Have Already Streamed It
2025’s The Accountant 2 has become a streaming sensation. The Amazon MGM Studios movie is a sequel to 2016’s The Accountant, following Christian Wolff (Affleck) and his brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal) as they join forces to track down a group of ᴀssᴀssins.
The movie debuted in theaters on April 25, grossing $102.1 million against a reported budget of $80 million. At the time of writing, it is the 19th highest-grossing movie of 2025 worldwide.
So far, The Accountant 2 has outgrossed a number of other notable 2025 movies, including Elio, A Working Man, The Monkey, Until Dawn, and One of Them Days.
Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, The Accountant 2 has become Prime Video’s No. 2 most-watched movie of all time. This record has been achieved thanks to more than 80 million viewers worldwide watching the movie during its first 28 days on the platform since it made its streaming debut on June 5.
Prime Video’s all-time rankings are opaque, so the тιтle at No. 1 at the time of writing has not been officially confirmed. However, it is likely that The Accountant 2 is only behind a recent streaming hit such as Road House or Red One, both of which have performed well on Prime Video over the past year or so.
What This Means For The Accountant 2
The Franchise Has A Bright Future
Because movies typically need to earn back two and a half times their budgets, it seems unlikely that The Accountant 2 turned a profit in theaters. However, this is not necessarily a concern, because many Amazon MGM Studios movies are designed to make waves on streaming, with the theatrical runs operating as advertising rather than their sole revenue source.
Because the new Ben Affleck movie has performed so well on Prime Video, this makes it entirely likely that the possible Accountant 3 will be greenlit. Both Affleck and director Gavin O’Connor have expressed interest in making a third installment, and this streaming performance has likely made that a priority for the studio as well.
