Avatar 3’s Surprising Family Reunion Teases An Even Bigger Role For An Unexpected Character

Avatar: Fire and Ash has teased an unexpected reunion between Spider and his father that may forever change the course of the franchise. The story of Avatar: Fire and Ash will show Jake and the Na’vi’s ongoing war against the evil Colonel Miles Quaritch and the RDA.

This comes after Avatar: The Way of Water‘s ending showed Quaritch struggling to bond with his son, Spider, and the duo parting ways after a brutal conflict. An image from Avatar: Fire and Ash was released, revealing that the film will depict the reunion of Quaritch and Spider.

The latter seemed ready to leave his evil father forever after all the suffering Quaritch caused him and his loved ones. However, it is clear that they will have to face each other once again in director James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which could have huge ramifications for the Avatar franchise going forward.

Spider’s Allegiance Could Be Key To Avatar: Fire & Ash’s Story

Spider May Have To Decide Whose Side He’s On In Avatar: Fire and Ash

Spider and Quaritch’s reunion in Avatar: Fire and Ash could make the former question his relationship with Jake, his family, and the Na’vi. Though Spider was close to them in Avatar: The Way of Water, Neytiri still feels that he is not one of her kind.

This resentment is understandable, given he’s the son of the man who led a genocide of her people and killed her father. Nevertheless, this tension could drive Spider closer to Quaritch in the sequel.

Though Spider left with Jake and his family afterward, this moment could single-handedly make Spider question where his place lies in the conflict between the humans and the Na’vi in Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Avatar: The Way of Water showed Neytiri holding a knife to Spider’s throat to make Quaritch spare Kiri’s life. Despite the familial bond Spider shared with Jake and his children, it’s unknown if Neytiri would’ve actually killed him.

Spider may have left with Jake and his family afterward, but this moment could single-handedly make Spider doubt his place among the Na’vi, which could be a huge part of Avatar: Fire and Ash’s plot.

Avatar 3 Elevating Spider’s Role Could Help The Franchise’s Future

Spider’s Character Arc Could Deepen Avatar’s Story In Fire & Ash

Though he was only introduced in Avatar: The Way of Water, Spider has become one of the main human characters of the franchise right now. He has also become one of the most compelling characters in the franchise as a whole.

Mirroring Jake’s journey in the first Avatar film, Spider’s internal conflict between his Na’vi family and his human family was a crucial emotional component of The Way of Water‘s story.

Spider could continue to question whether he belongs with Quaritch or the Na’vi in Avatar: Fire and Ash, transferring the theme of social belonging from previous Avatar films to the next. It could even make for a dark reflection of Jake’s character arc, as he could go from fighting alongside the Na’vi to fighting for Quaritch and the RDA in the third Avatar film.

Spider and Quaritch’s reunion could help make it the darkest, most emotional Avatar movie yet. Having struggled to gain full acceptance from Neytiri, Spider could be more inclined to side with his father and his fellow humans in the war for Pandora.

This could have a mᴀssive effect on Jake and his family in Avatar: Fire and Ash, as Spider could help Quaritch gain an edge over his enemies in the next film, ensuring the franchise will never be the same.
