Brainiac Enters The DC Universe In Epic Superman Movie Art

Brainiac makes a secret appearance in the new Superman movie through exciting DC Universe art. David Corenswet’s Superman will face many threats in the first movie of James Gunn’s DCU. Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor is the film’s main villain. However, characters like The Authority‘s Engineer, the Hammer of Boravia, Ultraman, and many more will fight the new Man of Steel.

Before more details about DC’s next movie started to come out, there were rumors that Brainiac would be the villain Corenswet’s Superman would face in the DCU project. As it stands, the character is not expected to appear in the Superman movie, with the film setting up other threats instead. However, a surprise appearance can’t be ruled out.

On Twitter, artist @arifinity_ imagined Brainiac’s DCU debut in the Superman movie’s post-credits scene.

The fan art showcases David Corenswet’s Superman meeting the alien, with Breaking Bad‘s Giancarlo Esposito seemingly cast as Brainiac in it. Corenswet’s Superman looks surprised, with Brainiac sporting his classic DC Comics design. Whether Brainiac is in Superman or not will be confirmed soon.

Could Brainiac Appear In James Gunn’s Superman Movie?

The DC Universe Movie Will Feature Many Villains

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn confirmed that his Superman movie will feature a post-credits scene. That opens the door for the Brainiac Superman fan art to prove itself accurate, as the film is already crawling with villains, so the alien’s debut in the post-credits scene would make more sense. However, there is one thing that could be against it.

While Gunn confirmed that DC’s Superman movie will have at least one post-credits scene, the director also said that his philosophy about tags has changed due to his Marvel days. While Gunn could set up future DCU events through post-credits scenes, he will only do that if “it really, really works,” rather than burdening every project with a future setup.

Our Take On Whether Brainiac Could Appear In James Gunn’s Superman Movie

Based on Gunn’s words, I don’t think that Brainiac will be in Superman, be it in the movie itself or the post-credits scene. There is a lot already going on in the DC Universe’s first movie. While it would be exciting to add Brainiac to the mix, I fear it would be too much, too soon. DC needs time to breathe.

There will be many projects down the line with Corenswet’s Clark Kent, as James Gunn has already confirmed that he is working on a Superman sequel of sorts, and the Man of Steel will appear in the DCU again before long. I’m confident Brainiac will eventually make his DCU debut, but Superman does not need him.
