The Twilight Cast Admits They Dislike The Most Controversial Storyline As Much As The Audience

Members of the Twilight cast appeared at the Denver Fan Expo this week, and Screen Rant was on hand for the event. During the proceedings, one panel featured Twilight cast members who discussed their experiences making the movie. One of the topics they broached was the controversial scene where Jacob Black imprinted on the infant Renesmee.

In the final Twilight movie, Jacob’s pack attacked Bella, feeling that her vampire baby threatened their pack and the world. However, Jacob wouldn’t let anything happen to them, and he imprinted on Bella’s baby. The imprinting caused a mᴀssive controversy among fans, many of whom felt it was wrong on multiple levels.

It turns out the cast agrees with the fans’ sentiments on the idea of Jacob imprinting on a baby. Peter Facinelli, who plays Carlisle Cullen, the patriarch of the Cullen Clan, said how he would deal with the idea of a werewolf imprinting on someone in his home:

“I’d have a no imprinting allowed sign [in the compound].”

Jackson Rathbone, who plays the vampire Jasper Hale, had an even harsher response to the idea of imprinting:

“I would kill a werewolf if he imprinted on my daughter.”

What This Means For The Twilight Saga

There Is No Way Future Twilight Movies Can Repeat This

The fact that the cast members agree with the idea that imprinting is problematic, at best, is proof that imprinting is one thing that will never repeat in the future Twilight movies. There have been rumors of a Twilight streaming series, and an adaptation of the Edward point-of-view novel Midnight Sun is also coming.

With all the backlash surrounding Jacob’s imprinting, if either of those projects reaches the events of the final Twilight book, it will have to either eliminate the imprinting or provide a better explanation for its purpose. Otherwise, the same backlash could arise for the new stories.

Our Take On Twilight Cast’s Response To Imprinting Controversy

The Imprinting Is Creepy. But Misunderstood

It is important to remember that Jacob didn’t imprint on Renesmee voluntarily. The way imprinting in Twilight works is that a shapeshifter immediately imprints on a person without warning, and they have no control over this. While many fans ᴀssociate imprinting with forming a romantic connection, that isn’t exactly what it means.

Instead, when a shapeshifter imprints on another person, they become connected to that person as a protector. The problem with The Twilight Saga is that it showed Jacob and Renesmee ending up together when the girl grew up, making the idea creepier than ever. It’s no wonder that the cast and fans were bothered by it.
