“I Can’t Read It:” Why One Twilight Actor Won’t Read Stephenie Meyer’s Most Recent Book

Among the other interesting opportunities at the ongoing Denver Fan Expo was the chance to speak to The Twilight Saga star Peter Facinelli. He answered many eager questions fans still have about the experience of shooting the films and the upcoming show. When asked if he had read the new book in the series, he said:

“I can’t read it. Because it’s like Edward’s thoughts, you know? And I feel like it would be like Carlisle going through his diary.!
It just feels so invasive to me. And as a dad, I don’t know what he’s thinking of me.”

Peter Facinelli, who plays Carlisle Cullen in the franchise, was in attendance on Thursday, alongside co-star Kellan Lutz, who plays Emmett Cullen in The Twilight Saga. During the weekend, they will be joined by other co-stars, Jackson Rathbone, who plays Jasper Hale in the films, and Ashley Greene, who plays the character of Alice Cullen in Twilight.

While Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, successful actors most known for their breakout roles, weren’t present, fans of Twilight swarmed to the event to interact with the stars in attendance. Netflix’s new Twilight TV series has brought the cult franchise back into the zeitgeist as fans of the books and the films eagerly wait for more news about it.

What Peter Facinelli’s Comments Mean For Midnight Sun

He Values The Sancтιтy Of The Characters’ Relationship

Peter Facinelli as Carlisle and Robert Pattinson as Edward in The Twilight Saga

Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyer’s most recent Twilight book, which came out in 2020, is a prequel-of-sorts that tells the story of Twilight from Edward’s perspective. Netflix’s Twilight show will adapt Midnight Sun, which makes fans curious if the stars of the original movie have read it. Even if cast members may not return, their opinions matter to the fans.

The stars of the films developed a familial bond while shooting the Twilight movies.

Peter Facinelli explaining that he hasn’t read Midnight Sun and possibly never can, confirms something that matters to many fans of The Twilight Saga. If Facinelli can’t read Midnight Sun without feeling like a father reading his son’s diary, then that means that the stars of the films developed a familial bond while shooting the Twilight movies.

Reading a Twilight book takes Facinelli back to his time portraying Carlisle, and reading Midnight Sun won’t just bring back memories, but will also make him feel like he’s doing something wrong. Since Midnight Sun is written from Edward’s perspective, and retells events Facinelli knows from playing his character, it makes him feel like reading his son’s diary.

Our Take On Peter Facinelli’s Comments About Midnight Sun

The Book Delves Deeper Into The Cullens’ Family Dynamics

Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen in Twilight

Peter Facinelli is right to not read Midnight Sun if he feels like he’ll be reading from his character’s perspective. Since Bella isn’t always surrounded by all the Cullens, Twilight only depicts some moments of family conflict and bonding between the Cullens. However, Midnight Sun‘s depiction of the Cullens is much more detailed.

Edward discusses his feelings about his family, including his father, and if Facinelli reads from Carlisle’s point of view, he’ll feel as uncomfortable as he expects to. Even though the book isn’t written in diary format, it can feel like reading his diary for anyone who knows Edward beforehand, because it tells the same story again.

Fans can expect a release date for the show to be announced at TUDUM later this year.

However, if any cast members return for the new Twilight TV show, they’ll have to read Midnight Sun and be forced to tackle this uncomfortable feeling. Since years have pᴀssed since the original movies were released, and the characters are going to be the same age, it’ll be best for the showrunners to choose an entirely new cast.
