10 MCU Villains Who Could Totally Beat Thanos In A Fight

Thanos may be a powerful villain, but he’s not invincible, and these other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) villains could have absolutely overpowered the Mad тιтan. Thanos was the primary villain of the Infinity Saga, and as such, he was a real threat to the Avengers.

And while the Avengers fought valiantly to overpower Thanos, he was able to collect all six Infinity Stones, and snap half of all life out of existence. But that isn’t to say that there aren’t plenty of more nefarious characters who could have beaten Thanos.

Ego

Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Ego is the father of Peter Quill, and a member of the Celestial family. However, he is unlike many of the other Celestials depicted in the MCU.

While the other Celestials roam the universe as giants, Ego wished to reproduce with hiw own genetic signature, and begin taking over corners of the universe for himself. Ego is also presented as being a living planet, who creates small emissaries to communicate with mortals.

While Thanos is powerful, his strength would be exhausted fighting against an entire planet. On top of that, Ego can create incredible structures with his will, which would present an incredible challenge that Thanos would struggle to overcome.

Dormammu

Dormammu in the Dark Dimension in Doctor Strange

Dormammu is a giant monstrous being who rules over the Dark Dimension. He wields incredible magical powers, and has the power to influence and manipulate mortal beings.

While Doctor Strange got into a fight with Dormammu in Doctor Strange, he was unable to claim a victory through traditional means. Instead, Doctor Strange trapped Dormammu in a time loop where he was killed over and over again.

In a fight against Thanos, this deity-level threat would likely be able to avoid taking any damage, while controlling or killing Thanos with relative ease.

Celestials

Celestial Arishem in space in Eternals

Speaking of deity-level threats, the other Celestials, like Arishem, are some of the most powerful and influential beings in the universe. These immense goliaths have created and maintained countless worlds, and use new planets to incubate and grow new Celestials.

At this scale, it feels almost guaranteed that the Celestials would be able to overpower any regular mortal being. Now, Thanos is exceptional, and likely has powers equal to an Eternal, but on his own, he doesn’t stand a chance against an experienced Celestial.

7

Cᴀssandra Nova

Now, mutants stand apart from ordinary mortal beings. The vast majority are slightly evolved humans, but for a rare few, these modern marvels are classified as Omega-level mutants, meaning their powers are extraordinary.

The MCU is set to begin introducing several more of these incredible beings in the near future, but at present, there are only a handful of mutants present. But one, Cᴀssandra Nova, has powers that are almost certain to ensure a victory over Thanos.

Cᴀssandra has incredible telekinetic and psychic powers. These become especially effective when in contact with a target, which means Cᴀssandra could put Thanos into a nightmare, and dismantle him before he ever wakes up.

6

Hela

Hela fighting the Valkyrie in Thor Ragnarok

Thor successfully killed a weakened Thanos at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame, but his elder sister, Hela, has proven to be a significantly better fighter than her brother.

Hela is the goddess of war, and with her bare hands, she was able to utterly destroy Thor’s trusty hammer, Mjölnir. And beyond this, she can summon and command the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, while also creating swords and various weapons at will.

With all of this in mind, Hela is a powerful rival for anyone to stand against, and in a one-on-one battle against Thanos, she is almost certain to take the crown.

5

Surtur

Hulk wanting to fight Surtur in Thor Ragnarok

However, Hela also likes to call in backup to aid her in her efforts. Whether that is her powerful wolf Fenris, or the living embodiment of Armageddon, Surtur. Surtur’s fate was to destroy Asgard, the home of some of the most advanced and powerful beings in all the Nine Realms.

Surtur is not only a giant creature whose flesh can burn and destroy anything it comes into contact with, but he is a powerful enтιтy capable of extraordinary feats of destruction. Thanos may try to fight back, but Surtur’s victory is ᴀssured.

4

Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff fully becoming the Scarlet Witch in WandaVision

Now, Wanda Maximoff was not always considered a villain in the MCU. At one point, she was an aspiring hero who worked alongside the Avengers. However, after suffering loss after loss, and coming into contact with the Darkhold, she transformed into the Scarlet Witch.

Wanda also had the chance to fight Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, where she struggled and lost, but despite her inexperience, she managed to push back the Mad тιтan far more effectively than any of her peers.

With her additional powers, and the strength she has refined since her first encounter with Thanos, the Scarlet Witch could likely make short work of the villain who once struck so much fear into the hearts of every hero, and caused her so much grief.

The Darkhold and Wanda’s immense grief unlocked her ability to access the chaos magic that makes her such an incredible sorceress. With these enhanced abilities, Wanda would have little trouble annihilating Thanos.

3

Mephisto

Mephisto extends his hand with a smile in Ironheart

Mephisto is essentially the Marvel Universe’s version of the Devil. This dark figure rules a Hell dimension, and imparts incredible powers to others in order to carry out his will. In the comics, this has resulted in chaos for the heroes.

While Mephisto is essentially one of the most powerful beings in reality, he is largely disinterested in the dealings of mortals, unless it serves to entertain him. Which means he is unlikely to feel any inclination to fight against Thanos.

However, if he did take an interest in the Mad тιтan, Mephisto would easily put him in his place. And potentially turn him into a subservient sniveling creature who is good for nothing except carrying out the will of Mephisto.

2

The Void

Sentry's Void alter ego raises his hand to attack in Thunderbolts_

Bob Reynolds was an ordinary man who suffered through a traumatic childhood. As an adult, he fell into numerous bad habits, and became aimless. However, his life was changed forever when he signed up to be a part of lab research, essentially becoming a human guinea pig.

While most of the other volunteers did not survive the experiments, Bob did. As luck would have it, Bob was the only successful experiment, and his human body was transformed into something far more powerful.

Bob possesses powers that put him above the Avengers themselves. However, his new gifts came at a heavy price. The dark side of Bob, buried in his psyche, also developed into a powerful and independent new being, known as the Void.

The Void appears to have unique abilities that even Bob’s alter ego, Sentry, does not. He can read minds, and transport people into a nightmare dimension that removes them from the waking world. Thanos wouldn’t stand a chance against the Void, and he’d struggle to overcome his own demons.

Loki

Loki looking at the camera in Loki season 2 finale

Loki was the first villain the Avengers ever fought against as a team. And at the time, he relied on the help and support of Thanos, a much more powerful tyrant, to try and take over the Earth. However, since that time, Loki has been on quite a journey.

While the original Loki ultimately died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, a variant Loki arose from the events of Avengers: Endgame. This Loki was still firmly in his villain era, but when he was confronted with his life potential by the TVA, he began to have a change of heart.

Loki went on to accomplish incredible things, and became instrumental in saving the Multiverse from destruction. However, in order to do this, he had to harness new abilities such as manipulating time, and living for hundreds of years through the same moment to find a way forward.

This version of Loki became a being so powerful that he could literally hold the infinite timelines in his hands, and keep the multiverse from falling apart. As such, his powers appear to have been significantly upgraded, making him someone who would be more than capable of eliminating Thanos in the MCU.
