KPop Demon Hunters Needs To Get A Sequel So It Can Address One Confusing Plot Point

The animation landscape has changed a lot in recent years, and with the biggest names in animated feature films like Disney Animation Studios and Pixar feeling like they’re failing to catch up with the times, movies like KPop Demon Hunters show why Sony is one of the most exciting companies in the animation landscape today.

KPop Demon Hunters has gotten great reviews, and so far, it seems to be a pretty big hit on Netflix, with great characters and storytelling. Even though the film was released very recently, many people have already begun clamoring for a sequel which would not only be able to continue the Hunters’ story, but could also explain a few odd worldbuilding choices.

KPop Demon Hunters Doesn’t Make It Clear If We Should Sympathize With ALL Demons

The Movie’s Depiction Of Its Demons Is Pretty Conflicting

While Jinu was depicted as a very sympathetic character, despite his past choices, he was really the only demon in KPop Demon Hunters who was portrayed as such. The other members of the Saja Boys were pretty unambiguously evil, along with the other swathes of demons that appeared throughout the rest of the movie.

That demon was killed off without answering the question, and the rest of the demons killed during Kpop Demon Hunters‘ ending weren’t shown as anyone other than pure evil.

This aspect of the movie’s world seemed like it was going to be explored more, with Rumi even asking a demon that the Hunters were fighting if they were being controlled by Gwi Ma as well. That demon was killed off without answering the question, and the rest of the demons killed during Kpop Demon Hunters‘ ending weren’t shown as anyone other than pure evil.

Fleshed-Out Demon Characters Beyond Rumi & Jinu Would Have Made KPop Demon Hunters Better

The Movie Could’ve Done With A Touch More Nuance

While the movie was great, and its relatively short runtime was likely a big reason the demons weren’t explored more, fleshing out the idea of demons as a whole would have made the movie’s conflict more interesting and allowed for more nuance when it came to KPop Demon Hunters’ characters and themes.

KPop Demon Hunters had a runtime of one hour 35 minutes, which, while not too much shorter than many similar movies, still required it to be a pretty тιԍнт film.

As it stands, the movie seemed to be saying that Rumi and Jinu were the only demons worth saving, as there wasn’t any kind of reflection for the rest of them. They were shown to all be scared of Gwi Ma, so presumably they all had a similar enough story to Jinu, but they weren’t given any time to show that.

KPop Demon Hunters Is Perfect As A First Installment If Its Sequel Is Going To Explore More Demon Characters

The Next Movie Could Explore This Concept In Greater Detail

However, as KPop Demon Hunters is hopefully going to be getting a sequel at some point, it would make sense to save a lot of that development for another installment, and keep the main focus of this first movie on the main characters, introducing the world and the expectations moving forward.

Even though the movie ends with the Hunters sealing away Gwi Ma and the demons, there are plenty of ways that they could be brought back and expanded upon. A sequel telling the story of new demons who may have more similarities to Jinu than Gwi Ma would give KPop Demon Hunters an even more interesting world.
