Sydney Sweeney’s R-Rated Movie With Ana De Armas Looks Good, But She Has A More Exciting Thriller Coming Up

Sydney Sweeney has one of the busiest schedules in 2025. She started with the film Echo Valley on Apple TV+. Although this received mixed reviews, it still provided the actor with increased exposure in the streaming market. Next month, Sweeney will be a part of a rare box office phenomenon, where two of her movies will be released on the same day. Americana and Eden come out on August 22.

The latter is a Ron Howard film that first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024. It is a psychological thriller that focuses on a group of people traveling to the Galápagos to seek change in their lives.

In addition to Sweeney, the leading cast includes Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Felix Kammerer, and Vanessa Kirby. Eden is the first narrative movie from Howard in three years, adding hype surrounding the project. But despite Eden‘s intrigue, Sweeney has an even more exciting feature to come.

The Housemaid Is Sydney Sweeney’s Most Exciting Thriller Of 2025

It Is Coming Out On Christmas Day

Later this year, Sweeney will also star in The Housemaid. This thriller stars Sweeney as a young woman who is trying to get a fresh start in life by working as a maid for a rich couple. The movie is set for release on December 25.

Curiously, The Housemaid is directed by Paul Feig, who usually makes comedies. This makes the film an even more intriguing thriller, as it will see a director work with source material (i.e. the novel by Freida McFadden) that is outside his usual comfort zone.

Eden‘s trailer is decent, and it looks like a fun summer film, but it is not nearly as unique and intriguing as The Housemaid. Eden‘s early reviews are also a bit rocky, with the film getting a 57% Tomatometer from critics thus far. This makes The Housemaid the most exciting Sweeney thriller to come.

The Housemaid Could Give Sydney Sweeney A Thriller Series

There Are Multiple Books In The Series

The Housemaid is also good news for Sweeney’s future career. There are three books in McFadden’s original book series, so if the movie is successful, it could easily get sequels.

Eden (and Americana for that matter) are much more likely to be one-off productions. As such, The Housemaid presents an exciting opportunity for Sweeney since it gives her a chance to be in a thriller series. She has never led a major film series before, but the actor is increasingly popular, so this could be her time to do so.
