DCU’s Batman Update: James Gunn Confirms The Mystery Script Is Almost Ready

The Brave and The Bold movie, which will reboot Batman for the DC Universe, gets a major update from James Gunn. The DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” has multiple Justice League heroes getting reimagined on the big and small screens, with the Caped Crusader being one of them in Gunn’s franchise.

As The Brave and The Bold has Andy Muschietti tapped to direct the DCU’s Batman reimagination, the story will focus on Bruce Wayne discovering the existence of his son, Damian Wayne, a.k.a. Robin. While no release date is currently attached to The Brave and The Bold, the film is taking major steps forward to becoming a reality.

During a new interview with Omelete to promote Gunn’s Superman movie, the outlet asked the DC Studios co-CEO how many Batman scripts he expects to be reading in the next couple of months. With a laugh, Gunn stated, “Two.” One is Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2, while the other is clearly The Brave and The Bold.

While Gunn has stated previously that he is working with a writer on The Brave and The Bold script, it still remains a mystery who the scribe actually is, as he hasn’t shared their name yet. This interview was also likely conducted right before Reeves’ The Batman 2 script update on June 27.

What James Gunn’s DCU Update Means For DC Studios’ Batman

While time will tell who is working with Gunn on The Brave and The Bold movie screenplay, this is perhaps the biggest progression about the Batman reboot from the DCU for 2025, so far. If the script is ready within the next few months, and ends up being approved, that means casting could be starting either late this year or sometime in 2026.

The bigger question, however, is where in the DCU release schedule they would end up slotting The Brave and The Bold. Given that DC Studios intend to release only two DCU live-action movies a year, 2026 is already covered with Supergirl on June 26 and Clayface on September 11.

At the earliest, The Brave and The Bold may not be released until 2027, but it also depends on when the film actually gets into principal pH๏τography, and if this current script ends up being what they use for the movie. But nevertheless, Gunn’s latest update about The Brave and The Bold script is still a lot to be excited about.

Gunn recently confirmed he “killed” a DCU project because he was unhappy with the script – which means The Brave and The Bold‘s future cannot be guaranteed unless or until he is happy with the script.

Our Take On James Gunn’s Batman Update

While time will tell what happens in the next few months with The Brave and The Bold screenplay, it’s definitely encouraging to hear from Gunn about the DCU’s Batman reboot being closer to happening. As the DCU’s Batman movie will feature Bat-Family members, there are many reasons to be excited about how this franchise will tackle the Batman mythology.

The Dark Knight will be one of the most compeтιтive roles once auditions start happening, so time will tell if fan-favorite choices for Batman like Alan Ritchson, Jensen Ackles, or Brandon Sklenar, will be part of those conversations. But for now, viewers can look forward to hopefully learning more about the progression of The Brave and The Bold script in the coming months.
