10 Bat-Family Members With The Most Potential To Appear In The DCU’s Batman Movie, Ranked

The Brave and the Bold Batman movie will feature characters from the Bat-Family, and I believe a few of them have a bigger chance of appearing in the DC Universe film than others. The Bat-Family is one of the most exciting teams in DC Comics. It allows Bruce Wayne to show a different side of himself, being lighter and less rigid.

The DCU’s Chapter One has teased the debuts of superhero families, with multiple Green Lanterns, Superman & Supergirl, and more. What we know about The Brave and the Bold‘s story is that one major Bat-Family character makes his live-action debut, with others appearing. Based on the DCU’s projects and more, these are the most likely Bat-Family heroes for the Batman movie.

Stephanie Brown/Spoiler

A Supporting Player For The DCU Batman Franchise

Stephanie Brown is often forgotten when fans think of the Robins in DC Comics. However, she did take over the famous sidekick role, making her an important Bat-Family member. Additionally, Steph crafted her own superhero idenтιтy as Spoiler, and that is how the DC Universe’s upcoming Batman movie could bring her into the fold.

Steph is the daughter of Cluemaster, a Riddler-like Batman villain. I think that could be an interesting angle for her story in the DCU. Most of the more popular Bat-Family members are not really ᴀssociated with crime. Stephanie’s backstory could add an exciting twist for those who are not familiar with the character and distinguish her from the other Robins.

Cᴀssandra Cain/Orphan

A Supporting Player For The DCU Batman Franchise

Cᴀssandra Cain was technically used by the DCEU. When I say “technically,” it is because while Ella Jay Basco played the character, Cᴀssandra was merely there in name only, as she did not behave at all like she does in the comics. Instead of being one of DC’s most skilled fighters, Cᴀss was nothing more than a pickpocket.

Raised a weapon but made a hero, Cᴀss’ story would mirror Damian Wayne’s, and they could bond in the DCU.

The DCEU’s use of Cᴀssandra Cain is good for James Gunn’s DCU, as it leaves immense potential to be explored in Batman’s debut movie and beyond. Cᴀss’ mother is Lady Shiva, one of the world’s greatest ᴀssᴀssins. Raised a weapon but made a hero, Cᴀss’ story would mirror Damian Wayne’s, and they could bond in the DCU.

Kate Kane/Batwoman

A Supporting Player For The DCU Batman Franchise

Batwoman has had a bigger presence in live-action than Cᴀssandra Cain and Stephanie Brown. Ruby Rose played Kate Kane in the Arrowverse, leading one season of her solo series and showing up in the Elseworlds and Crisis on Infinite Earths crossovers. Since Rose ended up leaving the role behind too soon, Batwoman’s live-action potential remains largely untapped.

That is what Batman’s The Brave and the Bold movie could explore. Kate Kane could be one of the pillars of the Dark Knight’s corner of the DCU. She could help with the franchise’s world-building, using the fact that Kate is Bruce Wayne’s cousin to explore their past in flashbacks and give him direct family.

7

Barbara Gordon/Batgirl

A Main Player For The DCU Batman Franchise

Ideally, Barbara Gordon should be higher on the list. She is one of the most famous Bat-Family members and has had a presence in live-action and animation. However, Batgirl’s recent past when it comes to movie adaptations has me ranking her lower. That is because Warner Bros. Discovery scrapped a finished Batgirl movie, making it a tax write-off, years ago.

Leslie Grace’s scrapped Batgirl movie would have featured Michael Keaton as Batman.

Given how the decision proved controversial, I think DC might take some time before using Barbara Gordon in the DCU. That said, she will inevitably have to appear. Babs has it all, being able to be present in the field as Batgirl or coordinating the entire Bat-Family as Oracle. She is also firmly connected to most team members.

6

Tim Drake/Red Robin

A Main Player For The DCU Batman Franchise

Tim Drake might often be forgotten when adaptations think about Batman’s Robins. However, the character has inspired a lot of modern takes on the Caped Crusader’s sidekick, going from Tim’s Robin costume to his personality and more. The character has an interesting backstory, as he figured out that Bruce Wayne was Batman and Dick Wayson was Robin on his own.

Tim Drake also has a foot in multiple DC Comics teams, and it seems like the DCU could be using two of those. The first is the Teen тιтans, which he led in a very popular run. The other team is his Detective Comics squad, which featured Clayface as a hero, something the DCU could tap after his solo movie.

5

Harley Quinn

A Wild Card For The DCU Batman Franchise

I know that Harley Quinn is one of the adjacent characters to the Bat-Family, but the DCU could very well make her a full-on member of the team from the get-go. If there is one character that was universally beloved in the old DCEU, it was Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. At the moment, no Suicide Squad sequels are planned.

2016

2020

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

2021

The Suicide Squad

The same goes for the Birds of Prey movie, which underperformed. As such, Harley’s future could lie in the DCU’s Gotham City. If Robbie is game to return, Gunn would certainly keep her in the role. Harley Quinn’s playful personality would offer a great contrast to Batman’s brooding nature. She could add a dash of fun and unpredictability to the dark Gotham.

4

Jason Todd/Red Hood

A Main Player For The DCU Batman Franchise

Jason Todd is a character who could add a lot to Batman’s The Brave and the Bold movie. He is famous for being the Robin who the Joker killed and thus one of Batman’s biggest failures. After his death, Jason was brought back to life in the comics through the Lazarus Pit, becoming more aggressive as Red Hood.

That whole arc has yet to make its way into a live-action Batman movie. The DCU could finally make that happen, with Red Hood being a character that could then spin off into an R-rated franchise of his own. This would add variety to the offerings in the DCU’s Batman corner.

3

Dick Grayson/Nightwing

A Main Player For The DCU Batman Franchise

Alongside Jason Todd, Dick Grayson will be the other Robin of DCs announced Dynamic Duo animated movie. There is still no word on the film’s DCU status, but it at least shows how the duo is at the forefront of James Gunn’s mind. With the Bat-Family appearing in Batman’s solo movie, Dick Grayson has to be there.

Dick is Batman’s first Robin, so that relationship has to be spotlighted in the DCU. Based on how Damian Wayne will debut in The Brave and the Bold, Dick should already be Nightwing, and the two characters are deeply connected. As the first leader of the Teen тιтans, who will have a DCU movie, Nightwing could be a franchise staple.

2

Alfred Pennyworth

A Main Player For The DCU Batman Franchise

While he has yet to be confirmed for The Brave and the Bold, there is little chance that Alfred Pennyworth will not be in the DCU movie. Batman’s butler is his father in a lot of ways, supporting Bruce Wayne through every part of his life. Alfred is an even more integral member of the Bat-Family.

The character serves as a mentor to the younger Batman-related heroes in the comics. That would make his DCU role more important than any live-action iteration of Alfred so far. With Damian Wayne going to live with Bruce, Alfred should be right there to help him feel at home. He can be the voice of reason for the DCU Bat-Family.

1

Damian Wayne/Robin

A Main Player For The DCU Batman Franchise

Finally, Damian Wayne is the only Bat-Family character besides Batman announced for The Brave and the Bold so far. The character will be one of the movie’s main players, with the story revolving around Bruce Wayne discovering that he has a son, Damian. The character was raised by the League of ᴀssᴀssins in the comics.

The DCU should tap into that potential, with Batman bonding with his son and teaching him how to be a hero. As the DCU’s Robin, Damian Wayne should have a long future in the franchise. His DC Comics story is brimming with potential, as Damian could lead the Teen тιтans franchise. The Brave and the Bold‘s confirmed Bat-Family character is exciting.
