Popular Wonder Woman DC Universe Casting Rumor Addressed By James Gunn

James Gunn opens up about a rumored Wonder Woman casting for the DC Universe franchise. As a new Wonder Woman movie is in development at DC Studios, the world is actively waiting to see who will be the next Diana Prince on the big screen.

One of the popular choices for the beloved Amazonian heroine is Adria Arjona, who has shared publicly that she would love to be cast as Wonder Woman for Gunn’s DCU. When DCU fans noticed that Gunn was following the actor on Instagram, theories emerged that she was already set to play the role.

In a new interview with ExtraTV, Gunn was asked about the Arjona rumors, and whether it means anything in terms of their chances of being looked at for Wonder Woman when the co-CEO follows any famous actors on social media. Gunn, who has worked with Arjona before, shared the following:

50%! No… You know, I follow Adria on Instagram, and everyone came out, ‘He just followed her. That means she’s Wonder Woman.’ She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way. But she was in a movie I made, seven years ago. We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. So, I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her [recently]. People just notice these things all the time.

What James Gunn’s Wonder Woman Casting Comments Mean

When it comes to casting a major role like Wonder Woman for the DCU franchise, fans are obviously going to pay more attention to who may or may not be on DC Studios’ radar. However, what is extremely important to remember about Wonder Woman is that Gunn only recently revealed that the film is being written.

Gunn’s comments make it clear that, if he follows someone on Instagram, it may simply not be related to casting, and instead just about wanting to have that connection on social media. With the Wonder Woman movie still in the early development process, it seems it may be far before the point in time where they will cast Diana herself.

Since there is no director attached to Wonder Woman, along with no release date, it doesn’t seem as though DC Studios would be looking at casting the role anytime soon, unless the Paradise Lost series has a cameo. The Wonder Woman reboot will only move forward once DC Studios has a completed script, meaning casting for the film itself may be years away.

Our Take On James Gunn’s Wonder Woman Casting Comments

As exciting as it would be to see Arjona be cast as Wonder Woman, it makes sense to hear Gunn address that a social media follow is sometimes just that. However, while it might be a while until her movie happens, there is still the Paradise Lost TV show in development, which will be a Wonder Woman prequel.

With Paradise Lost potentially further along than the Wonder Woman film, fans will likely be getting the Themyscira-centric project first, ᴀssuming the TV show gets fully greenlit and picked up to series. As such, there’s plenty of reason to hope that more updates on the Wonder Woman movie will emerge soon, including who will be playing Diana in the DCU.

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The franchise is known for its strong feminist themes, action-packed sequences, and its portrayal of Wonder Woman as a symbol of peace and justice.
