Mahershala Ali’s Blade Movie Finally On Track After Multiple Delays

The Blade movie has finally received an exciting update, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe could see the Daywalker’s debut soon. Mahershala Ali’s Blade movie was announced during Marvel Studios’ bombastic 2019 San Diego Comic-Con presentation. Since then, the film has gone through different iterations, losing directors, cast members, and more along the way. In October 2024, Blade was removed from the MCU’s release schedule, which meant the film was delayed indefinitely. However, those waiting for the project to make its way back on Marvel Studios’ slate now have reason to celebrate.

Speaking with Variety, Wesley Snipes Blade trilogy writer David Goyer revealed that Mahershala Ali’s Blade movie is seemingly moving forward at Marvel. Goyer claimed he approached the studio after Blade had a few setbacks to see if he could help, but he was turned down. According to the writer, Marvel said, “We love you, but we think we’ve cracked it now, and we’re in a good place.” Since then, Blade has not made progress publicly, and Goyer has not been contacted, but it seems like the film is still quietly moving forward at the studio. Check out the full quote below:

“It’s so funny, about eight months ago — when, not the latest hiccup hit, but like the prior hiccup — I had so many people that would say to me, ‘Dude, would you get in there on “Blade?” Would you just get in there?,’ whether it be friends or fans or people on social media.

And I wasn’t even really thinking about it, but then I had my agent call Marvel and say, ‘Do you guys need any help?’ And they said, ‘We love you, but we think we’ve cracked it now, and we’re in a good place.’ And then the latest thing happened. And so no, they haven’t contacted me,”

What The MCU Blade Movie’s Latest Update Means

Mahershala Ali Can Finally Become Part Of The Franchise

While Marvel might not have announced a new release date for Blade, Goyer’s update on what he was told by the studio is exciting for the film’s future. Mahershala Ali’s Blade has suffered a series of setbacks. Last year, the film was removed from its November 7, 2025, release date, which Marvel has chosen not to fill with another project. Given how the MCU’s upcoming movies — The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars — are all major events key to the Multiverse Saga, Blade started to feel unlikely.

However, with Goyer’s update on how Marvel feels it has cracked the story for the MCU’s Blade movie, which is said to be in a good place, the lack of formal updates might simply be due to a choice of where to fit the film on the MCU’s release schedule. Blade is a project that could very well work out after the Multiverse Saga concludes, and with Marvel having four dates reserved for 2028 MCU movies, Mahershala Ali’s Blade could be one of those.

Our Take On The MCU Blade Movie’s Latest Update

Wesley Snipes’ MCU Return Showed How Fans Want More Blade

While he will not play the MCU’s Blade, Wesley Snipes’ return as his version of the character in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine was one of the most beloved aspects of the movie. It showed how Blade is still incredibly popular and how Marvel Studios needs to hang on to the character. I’m happy to hear that the MCU’s Blade movie is now in a good place. It seems like Marvel knows what it wants to do with the character. It might simply not necessarily be as soon as fans expect, and that is okay as long as Blade is released.
