John Cena breaks his silence on Coyote vs. Acme‘s revival three months after the movie was saved. In November 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery made the controversial decision to shelve Coyote vs. Acme to claim a tax write-off, but unlike the Batgirl movie, the studio reversed course after facing public criticism, granting the filmmakers permission to find a new distributor. In March 2025, following a series of failed talks with potential buyers, Ketchup Entertainment ultimately secured the distribution rights for the Coyote vs. Acme movie, which stars Cena, Will Forte, Lana Condor, and more.
Speaking with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley for his new movie Heads of State, John Cena broke his silence on Coyote vs. Acme‘s revival three months after the movie was saved. The star says it’s rewarding for everyone involved that the film might finally be seen. He also acknowledged the disappointment of it being shelved, though he respects the decision. Cena praised the film as fun and entertaining, and hopes audiences will be able to see it soon. Read his full comments below:
Rewarding, certainly for everybody a part of the project. Anytime you put your heart and soul into something and it gets shelved, it is tough. Again, it ain’t my sandbox, so I completely understand those decisions, but the fact that companies could talk together and the movie could get shown. We do what we do to try to entertain, and I know the audiences that were able to see Coyote vs. Acme were entertained. So hopefully that audience grows larger… I just saw it for the first time very recently. It’s a bunch of fun and man, I’m glad it’s out of the dusty box.
Heads of State hits Prime Video on July 2.
What John Cena’s Comments Mean For Coyote Vs. Acme
When Will It Finally Be Seen?
Earlier this year, Coyote vs. Acme got some good news when it was picked up by Ketchup Entertainment, who previously did the same with Warner Bros. Animation’s The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. There’s still no confirmation of a release for Coyote vs. Acme, though it is expected to get a theatrical release in 2026, and things appear to be moving in the right direction. For Cena and others, it’s rewarding to know that the movie will eventually be seen.
Cena is the latest Coyote vs. Acme cast member to comment on the movie, as Will Forte and Lana Condor have both said it is one of the best things they have ever worked on. Speaking with ScreenRant earlier this year, Condor called Coyote vs. Acme the “best work” of her career. In another interview with Crowley, Forte called Coyote vs. Acme “a great movie” that “did not deserve what happened to it.”
Our Take On John Cena’s Coyote Vs. Acme Comments
They Highlight The Human Cost Behind Warner Bros. Discovery’s Decisions
John Cena and other cast members’ comments highlight the human cost behind Warner Bros. Discovery’s controversial decision to temporarily shelve Coyote vs. Acme, but also cancel the Batgirl movie. While tax write-offs may benefit a studio’s bottom line, they come at the expense of hundreds of cast and crew members who put their heart and soul into each movie, and whose work is ultimately sidelined. In turn, the revival of Coyote vs. Acme and the fact that it might finally be getting a release is a rewarding outcome for everyone involved, though Warner Bros. Discovery’s decisions remain disappointing.
