After Dolph Lundgren’s Cameo Tease In New Masters Of The Universe Movie, I Know His Perfect Role

Dolph Lundgren has teased that he may have a cameo in next year’s Masters of the Universe, and there is one role in the film that he would be perfect for. Lundgren’s best movies have shown off the actor’s physicality and charisma, casting him in all kinds of iconic roles, including Frank Castle in The Punisher and Ivan Drago in Rocky IV. However, one of the actor’s most memorable performances was as the iconic hero He-Man in the 1987 version of Masters of the Universe. With a reboot on the way, many have wondered about his possible involvement.

The new He-Man movie sounds very different from the 1987 original. The visual effects of 2026’s Masters of the Universe will certainly be better, but the other differences will be even more striking than that. So many characters from the original Masters of the Universe series have been confirmed to be cast for the film, suggesting that the ensemble will be big, colorful, and full of familiar faces. With these deep cuts in mind, there is one character who debuted in the 2002 animated series that would be perfect for Lundgren to play in the film.

Dolph Lundgren Strongly Hinted He Is Involved In The New Masters Of The Universe

“But Yeah, Maybe I’ll Get Involved Somehow.”

Lundgren starred as He-Man in 1987, and the actor has recently spoken about being potentially involved in the new film. There have long been suggestions that Lundgren could be cast in Masters of the Universe as a character like King Randor, but the part has gone to James Purefoy. It has become clear that Lundgren will not play a pivotal role in the film. However, a new interview with the actor at Men’s Journal has strongly hinted that he could be involved in a smaller capacity. Lundgren was asked about it, and responded with the following:

If you think a new He-Man movie makes you feel old, I feel old! I was in it! They’ve been trying to remake the picture for at least 15 years, and I’m glad they’re doing it. There’s a great cast, a great crew. It’s a big budget picture with MGM/Amazon. I think they’re doing a great job.

Prince Adam has a bit more romanticism to the character than other superheroes. Marvel and DC are a little harder-edged. There’s something magical and childlike about it. And even though they’re kind of making an adult picture, there’s something soft and positive about that character. It’s a bit of a secret, but I can’t say much. But yeah, maybe I’ll get involved somehow. We’ll see.

While this is hardly a guarantee that Lundgren will appear in the film, it seems likely that the actor will have some kind of cameo in the new Masters of the Universe. Considering that all the main parts in the film are already cast, this has led to some meaningful speculation about what role he could play in the new film. While it is possible that Lundgren could play some innocuous figure in the background, there is actually one role in particular that the star would be perfect for.

Lundgren Would Be A Perfect King D’Vann Grayskull

The Monarch Of Eternia And Ancestor To Prince Adam

Having played He-Man in the past, it makes sense that Lundgren would play King D’Vann Grayskull, the ancestor of Prince Adam. The character was first introduced in the 2002 animated series, where he was seen fighting against Hordak. His impact on the series is significant, as upon his death he ceded his power, infusing it into the Power Sword that He-Man carries. King Grayskull is an important figure in the story of Eternia, and his connection to Prince Adam, even spread through time, could allow Lundgren to make a small yet pivotal impact in the new film.

There have been several iterations of King Grayskull in He-Man canon between the various animated series, with the Kevin Smith series Masters of the Universe: Revelation even choosing to race-swap the character. However, the 2002 iteration of the hero has a design that is almost identical to He-Man. He rode atop Battle Lion as he fought against The Horde, working to liberate Eternia for all its people. Having played He-Man previously, Lundgren would be a perfect fit for King Grayskull, and the role would make the most sense of any for the actor to cameo.

How King Grayskull Could Appear In The 2026 He-Man Film

Lundgren Could Appear In A Very Small But Pivotal Role

The final shape of Masters of the Universe remains to be see, but the film is likely to combine science-fiction and epic fantasy. Many such films, including The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, have begun with long, narrated introductions that outline the past of their world. A sequence like that film’s opening could see King Grayskull fighting The Horde long ago, showing off some of the sword fights in Masters of the Universe. Alternatively, stories told through the Sorceress could involve a flashback, outlining how the Power Sword was infused with Grayskull’s power.

There are many different ways that King D’Vann Grayskull could fit into the new movie, and the role would make a great deal of sense for Lundgren to play. The actor has important connections to the Masters of the Universe franchise, and while him making a cameo in the film would be fun, casting him as King Grayskull would be more than just fan service. Audiences will see what kind of role the star plays, if any, when the film is finally released in 2026.
