The Accountant 2 was one of 2025’s most anticipated sequels. The film tells the story of math whiz Christian Wolff, who decides to become an accountant for some criminally-involved clients. The movie was directed by Gavin O’Connor, who also steps in to direct the second installment. The follow-up picks up after a critical character from the first movie is murdered, setting Christian and his brother Braxton off on an action-packed case. The Accountant 2 got decent reviews and made $102.1 million at the worldwide box office.
The lead actor in both of these films is Ben Affleck, who has had a vibrant career both in front of and behind the camera throughout the last few years. In 2023, he directed Air, in which he also starred alongside a superstar cast including Matt Damon and more. He has also played key roles in other recent films such as The Last Duel, Deep Water, and Hypnotic. After this year’s The Accountant 2, Affleck will continue to have a busy schedule coming up, and one of his films is particularly exciting.
Ben Affleck’s Next Film After The Accountant 2 Is An Original Action Crime Movie, The RIP
It Also Stars Matt Damon
Following The Accountant 2, Affleck’s next movie is the original action crime film The RIP. The Netflix drug crime movie sees Affleck play one of a group of Miami cops who discovers a hidden stash of millions of dollars in cash. Initially lost with what to do with this cash, the discovery leads the group to experience a test of loyalty, as they question who to rely on. Early footage from The RIP was revealed at Netflix’s TUDUM event this year, which showed an increasing level of intensity as the scenes progressed. The film will release on January 16, 2026.
Not only will The RIP return Affleck to a big-screen action role, but it will reunite him with Damon. Going all the way back to their Good Will Hunting days (and even before with their roles as extras in Field of Dreams), Affleck and Damon have been long-time collaborators. They were both in the 2020s movies The Last Duel and Air, and will continue on this trend with The RIP. In addition to Damon and Affleck, the film has also cast Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, Steven Yeun, Kyle Chanlder, and Nestor Carbonell.
The RIP Looks Like A Great Follow-Up To The Accountant 2 For Ben Affleck
It Returns Him To Action
The RIP looks like it could be a fantastic follow-up to The Accountant 2. One of the best qualities of The Accountant movies, especially the second one, is the brotherly relationship between Affleck’s Christian and Jon Bernthal’s Braxton. The two actors work off of each other well to create a dynamic and interesting duo. Affleck and Damon may not play brothers in The RIP, but their deep history of collaboration makes it more likely than ever that they will exhibit a sense of camaraderie within the action movie.
The film is also exciting because of its relations with director Joe Carnahan. The director has led films with several notable actors before, including The Grey and The A-Team, but he has never worked with Affleck. Not only will this be a good opportunity for Affleck to work under a new talent, but it could start an exciting new actor-director relationship. After the first The Accountant movie, the star went on to work with director O’Connor on The Way Back, before also taking on The Accountant 2. As such, he could follow a similar pattern as Carnahan.
Overall, The RIP is also just another great way for Affleck to delve into the action side of his career. While he has acted in his fair share of movies in this genre over the course of his career, the actor is apt to take on a wide array of genres. Not all of his action movies have been big hits, but between the cast, crew, and premise, there is a lot to be excited about for The RIP, which has a lot of potential.
