Speaking to Variety, VFX artist and supervisor Alexis Wajsbrot confirmed that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ jungle timeline is none other than Marvel’s Savage Land. According to Wajsbrot, it was Kevin Feige’s idea to make it the official debut of “Savage World,” and the brief sH๏τ was an expensive one due to the addition of the dinosaurs.

In Marvel Comics, the Savage Land is a prehistoric jungle located somewhere in Antarctica, preserved by alien technology and populated by dinosaurs, ancient tribes, and mutated wildlife. Throughout the years, the Savage Land has played a major role in X-Men history as both a battleground and refuge for heroes and villains alike. Characters like Ka-Zar, Shanna, Zabu, and Sauron originated in the Savage Land, though the island’s isolation and harsh conditions have kept it hidden from most human beings.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness features the live-action debut of the X-Men’s Savage Land in the form of an alternate universe. Given that the MCU’s X-Men reboot will likely take place after Avengers: Secret Wars‘ multiversal plot, it’s possible that a multiverse-wide reboot will integrate both the X-Men and other alternate timelines in the MCU’s Earth-616, with the Savage Land finding its place somewhere on planet Earth. Drawing inspiration from Marvel’s 2015 Secret Wars storyline, Avengers: Secret Wars‘ ending could bring both the X-Men and the Savage Land into the MCU’s main timeline.
