8 A Minecraft Movie Moments I Can’t Wait To Rewatch Now That It’s Streaming

As someone who’s only seen A Minecraft Movie once in theaters, I’m excited to rewatch several moments from the film now that it is finally streaming on Max. Watching the video game adaptation in theaters was a very unique experience. Several moments from A Minecraft Movie went viral online because of the reactions that they caused in theaters. I didn’t see anyone throwing popcorn (or chickens) into the air during some of the film’s most popular scenes, but I was still surrounded by screaming children. Unfortunately, I did not match their energy while watching the film.

Even though I grew up playing Minecraft, I was quite critical of the film. In her review of A Minecraft Movie, Screen Rant’s Mae Abdulbaki gave it a 4 out of 10, which I agree with. However, while I was disappointed by the film’s story, I have to admit that it’s very entertaining. Therefore, not only am I hoping we get a sequel to A Minecraft Movie, but I’m also excited to give it a rewatch now that it’s on streaming. Heading into my rewatch, here are the eight moments from A Minecraft Movie I can’t wait to watch again:

The First Night In The Overworld

A Minecraft Movie Includes A Lot Of Monsters

It was very exciting when Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn finally made it to the Overworld in A Minecraft Movie. After entering the block-filled dimsension, they are obviously confused by practically all of their surroundings. However, they had no idea that nighttime was going to come sooner than expected and bring a lot of danger. As a huge fan of Minecraft’s Survival mode, it was very thrilling to watch day turn to night in A Minecraft Movie.

During their first night in the Overworld, the characters encounter monsters like zombies, creepers, skeletons, and spiders. After he gets seperated from the group, Garrett even encounters a spider jockey in A Minecraft Movie, which is a rare mob in the video game. This scary first night also forces Henry to learn how to break blocks and build in the Overworld, so it is very important to the story of the film. Overall, it will be exciting to once again experience the terror of the first night with the characters in A Minecraft Movie.

Steve & Garret Flying Through The Air

Jason Momoa & Jack Black Have Great Chemistry In A Minecraft Movie

Jack Black as Steve standing next to Jason Momoa as Garrett and Sebastian Hansen as Henry with elytras on in A Minecraft Movie

After surviving their first night in the Overworld, Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn meet Steve, who eventually brings them to Midport Village. While in Midport Village, Steve teaches the other characters a lot about how things work in the Overworld. However, their tour of the town is interupted by an attack from Malgosha’s army. To escape the army of zombie piglins, Steve, Garrett, and Henry jump off a cliff and fly through the air using elytras.

Steve riding through the air on Garrett’s back is is arguably the funniest moment in A Minecraft Movie.

However, since they don’t have enough elytras, Steve has to ride on Garrett’s back. This is a hilarious sequence that showcases some amazing physical comedy from both Jack Black and Jason Momoa. Close to the end of their escape flight, Steve and Garrett have to maneuver their bodies into a super awkward position to fit through a small opening in a cliff. Steve riding through the air on Garrett’s back is is arguably the funniest moment in A Minecraft Movie, and I have no doubt it will also be great on a rewatch.

Steve, Garret, & Henry’s Mine Cart Ride

Mine Cart Mechanics Can Result In Complications In Minecraft

A group of creepers looking at a minecart track in A Minecraft Movie

Even though they successfully got away from the zombie piglins and the ghasts during A Minecraft Movie’s thrilling flying sequence, they are still being hunted on their way to Woodland Mansion. In fact, Malgosha’s army sends a huge piglin after Steve, Garrett, and Henry while they are in the diamond stash. The huge monster piglin crashes through the cave, prompting the characters to hop on a mine cart to try to once again escape.

However, their mine cart ride gets much scarier before the characters eventually make it out of the cave. In one cavern, they are surrounded by creepers and their mine cart is no longer pwoered by the redstone rails. Therefore, Garrett has to hop out of the cart and, in a panic, push it so that they can escape the creepers and the terrifying monster piglin. Thankfully, Steve, Garrett, and Henry make it out of the cave and are one step closer to arriving at Woodland Mansion.

The Chicken Jockey Fight

This Scene Is The Cause Of Some Wild Theater Reactions

After arriving at Woodland Mansion, which is guarded by dangerous illagers, Steve, Garrett, and Henry concoct a plan to retrieve the Earth crystal from a chest upstairs. While Henry sneaks into the chest room, Steve and Garrett decide to distract the illagers. This leads to the famous chicken jockey fight in A Minecraft Movie. During this scene, Jason Momoa gets to once again show off his physical comedy as his character, Garrett, is thrown into a ring and forced to fight a chicken jockey.

This is undoubtedly the most popular scene from A Minecraft Movie. In most of the viral videos that have been posted online over the past few months, audiences usually go wild during this scene. Therefore, it should be interesting to watch it at home, not surrounding by a bunch of screaming children. In fact, I’ll be able to pay more attention to the actual scene and the fight choreography this time around, since I won’t be distracted by a loud audience.

4

Henry’s Enderman Vision

Henry’s Vision Is The Darkest Scene In A Minecraft Movie

While Garrett fights the chicken jockey, Henry makes it into the chest room on the top floor of Woodland Mansion and starts looking for the Earth crystal. However, he quickly realizes that an enderman is in the room with him. Endermen are arguably the creepiest mob in Minecraft, but they are only dagerous if you look directly into their eyes. This is exactly what Steve tells Henry earlier in the film.

During this vision, the other characters in A Minecraft Movie belittle Henry and blame him for their misfortunes.

However, despite Steve’s warning, Henry still accidently looks into the enderman’s eyes. Interestingly, the endermen in A Minecraft Movie are different from their video game counterparts. Instead of trying to attack Henry, the enderman rushes towards him and prompts him to have a vision. During this vision, the other characters in A Minecraft Movie belittle Henry and blame him for their misfortunes. Therefore, it should be very interesting to more closely examine this intriguing vision scene now that A Minecraft Movie is streaming.

Marlene’s Date With The Villager

Jennifer Coolidge Delivers Her Signature Style Of Comedy In A Minecraft Movie

Jennifer Coolidge as Marlene smiling on a date in A Minecraft Movie.

Since her entire storyline takes place in the real world, it’s easy to forget that Jennifer Coolidge’s Marlene is even part of A Minecraft Movie. While her character is not really important to the plot of the film, Marlene is undoubtedly hilarious, which is why I’m excited to watch all of her interactions with the villager known as the nitwit. In particular, I can’t wait to rewatch her date with the nitwit, which the movie constantly cuts to to give audiences a slight break from the action in the Overworld.

During this date, Marlene tries to bond with the nitwit and make up for hitting him with her car. Surprisingly, it starts to become obvious that she is falling in love with the villager. Marlene is not at all aware that he comes from a different dimension, and hilariously tells the waitress that he is Finnish. All of the scenes featuring Marlene and the nitwit’s date are very entertaining, and actually set up the villager being able to speak English in the post-credits scene of A Minecraft Movie.

2

The Final Battle Against Malgosha & Her Army

A Minecraft Movie Ends With A High Stakes Battle

Malgosha in A Minecraft Movie

Heading back into the Overworld, I’m excited to watch the climactic battle between Steve and the other characters and Malgosha with her menacing army of zombie piglins. To stand a chance against Malgosha’s forces, Steve, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn ᴀssemble their own army of iron golems. This makes for an exciting climax to A Minecraft Movie, which sees the trumphant return of Garrett and the defeat of Malgosha, who was ᴅᴇᴀᴅset on bringing darkness to the Overworld.

Even though Malgosha is a somewhat underwhelming villain in A Minecraft Movie, it is very satisfying to watch her get defeated. It is also hilarious when, even after defeat, Malgosha continuously tries to convince Steve to come closer so that she can try to stab him. Overall, this final battle is one of the most entertaining sequences in A Minecraft Movie, and should be great to experience once again on a rewatch.

Steve Meeting Alex In The Post-Credits Scene

A Minecraft Movie’s Post-Credits Scene Sets Up A Sequel

After defeating Malgosha, the characters can reignite the portal back to Earth. While Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn don’t hesitate to go home, Steve initially decides he wants to stay in the Overworld. It’s where he feels like he’s meant to be after not really belonging in the real world. However, after some encouragement from his new friends, Steve eventually decides to follow them through the portal at the end of A Minecraft Movie. During the film’s epilogue, Steve and the other characters are seen enjoying their new lives together.

However, their time in the Overworld may not be over. After all, during the film’s post-credits scene, Steve returns to his old home, hoping that a chest with some supplies is still there. Surprisingly, a woman named Alex answers the door and invites Steve in. This is a great moment for fans of Minecraft, since Alex is also a major character in the video game. Therefore, many fans hope that a potential sequel to A Minecraft Movie will follow both Steve and Alex, which is why this brief scene will be exciting to rewatch.
