Where To Watch Elio: Showtimes & Streaming Status

After dominating the summer 2024 box office with Inside Out 2, Pixar returns with its latest space adventure, Elio. Since 1995, Pixar has won over the hearts of audiences with its beautiful animated stories that create emotion and spark inspiration. The studio thrives with its original storytelling, but has succeeded with several sequels that performed well at the box office. While many are waiting for upcoming sequels like The Incredibles 3 and Toy Story 5, Pixar’s latest film, Elio, looks like a worthwhile journey with a charming lead character.

The movie follows Elio Solis, an 11-year-old boy who is called up to the Communiverse by aliens after mistakenly being identified as the Earth’s ambᴀssador. Yonas Kibreab lends his voice to the тιтular role, and is joined by an all-star cast that includes Zoe Saldaña, Brad Garrett, Jameela Jamil, and Matthias Schweighöfer. The film is directed by a veteran Pixar duo, including Madeline Sherafian (Burrow), and Domee Shi (Turning Red). Here’s what you need to know about Elio‘s showtimes and streaming schedule.

Elio Releases In Theaters On June 20, 2025

Pixar is committed to releasing its films in theaters first

Between 2020-2022, Pixar released three of its films direct to Disney+: Soul, Luca, and Turning Red. However, that changed with 2022’s Lightyear, releasing exclusively in theaters before hitting VOD and streaming at a later date, and each Pixar film since then has followed a similar strategy. Elio debuts in theaters on June 20, 2025, a family-friendly counterpart to 28 Years Later, which releases on the same day. The film is rated PG, and will be available in standard or 3-D formats.

When Will Elio Release On Streaming?

Pixar films land on Disney+ after a few months

Since Pixar is a Disney brand, it’s guaranteed that Disney+ will be Elio‘s streaming home. However, it likely won’t be available to stream for a few months. Disney films don’t have an exact timeline for when they land on the service, but it’s usually around 2-3 months, meaning Elio should land on Disney+ sometime in September. One factor that could affect Elio’s timeline is its box office. If it performs well, Disney may keep it in theaters longer, delaying its release on Disney+.

For example, Inside Out 2 was released on June 14, 2024, and didn’t hit Disney+ until Sept. 25, 2024. However, 2025’s Snow White premiered on March 21 and landed on Disney+ on June 11, less than three months after its release. Snow White flopped at the box office, leading to a shorter run than Inside Out 2. Reports suggest Elio is expected to gross $35-$45 million in its opening weekend, one of Pixar’s lower openings. If it doesn’t have great legs at the box office, Disney could cut its theatrical run short and put it on Disney+ earlier than expected.

When Will Elio Release On Digital?

Elio may not be available at home until August

Normally, Disney waits about two months before making its films available to purchase at home. Moana 2, Snow White, and Mufasa: The Lion King received digital releases about two months after they premiered in theaters. Based on that model, Elio should be available to purchase in August. This is longer than many other studios, which sometimes make their films available as short as three weeks after their release date.

As previously stated, this does depend on the film’s performance at the box office. Even though Elio is expected to have a lower opening weekend, that doesn’t mean it’ll do poorly overall. 2023’s Elemental had a terrible opening, but good word-of-mouth led to great legs at the box office, and it finished as an average hit for Pixar. The film looks charming and perfect for families, meaning it could be a surprise hit that audiences return to throughout the summer.
