Coyote Ugly 2 Gets Hopeful Update From Important Person As 25th Anniversary Approaches

Legendary TV and movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer has opened up about the chances for a sequel to Coyote Ugly, just in time for the original movie to turn 25. The Aughts classic follows the employees of the тιтular watering hole as they try to pursue their dreams while entertaining customers with their over-the-top antics. Though the movie was largely reviled by critics, it was a box office sensation and has become a cornerstone of early 2000s comfort cinema. Despite its abundant financial success and sequel potential, a follow-up has yet to materialize.

While promoting his new film F1, which is due to premiere on June 27, producer Jerry Bruckheimer spoke with ScreenRant about the chances of a Coyote Ugly sequel. When asked directly about the long-awaited follow-up, Bruckheimer replied, “Ah, that’s a good idea. Thanks for that. We’ve been trying to do it for television. It hasn’t quite happened yet – maybe we’ll get it together. The film is nearing the 25th anniversary of its release, and co-star Tyra Banks has spent years lobbying for a reboot. However, Bruckheimer’s comments suggest that nothing is currently in the works.

Don’t Expect A Coyote Ugly Sequel Anytime Soon

Jerry Bruckheimer’s career in Hollywood has spawned mᴀssive franchise and plenty of huge box office successes, and he’s still busy all these years later. Based on what he said when asked about Coyote Ugly 2, it would seem like a sequel to the classic Aughts rom-com might not be coming anytime soon. If there was even the faintest glimmer of an idea for a sequel, Bruckheimer likely would have mentioned that it was being developed, but the fact that he had nothing to add suggests that no plans are in place.

Our Take On The Possibility Of A Sequel To Coyote Ugly

Sometimes Nostalgia Should Stay Nostalgia

Despite the fact that several cast members have been pushing for reboots or sequels to Coyote Ugly, I think they would be unnecessary. The movie largely holds up in hindsight due to nostalgia, and while it may have been popular at the time, there’s no guarantee that it will be popular in the modern day. A reboot would be more logical than a sequel, but even that would not add much to the equation. The original movie captured a specific place and time, and any attempt to recapture that magic would feel disingenuous.

A movie like Coyote Ugly that embodies the spirit of the 2020s would be so much better than a rehash of a 25-year-old hit.

The early 2000s has become the new era for nostalgia, but I think it’s more important for modern filmmakers to take lessons from the best 2000s movies instead of just copying those films. Coyote Ugly shouldn’t be duplicated or remade, but instead, it should inform storytellers about how to capture interesting characters and place them in their specific time. A movie like Coyote Ugly that embodies the spirit of the 2020s would be so much better than a rehash of a 25-year-old hit.
