I Can’t Believe That’s How Cody Rhodes Appears In The Naked Gun Reboot

Some people may not even recognize him in the new trailer, but I can’t wait to see Cody Rhodes in The Naked Gun reboot. Less than two months before the release of the movie, a full trailer for The Naked Gun has finally been released and gives fans a look at what Liam Neeson’s take on Frank Drebin will be like. While the upcoming comedy film is sort of a reboot, Neeson will be playing the son of the original Frank Drebin, who was played by Leslie Nielson in the three previous Naked Gun movies and the Police Squad! sitcom.

Nielson is often regarded as one of the funniest actors of all time, so Neeson has big shoes to fill. Thankfully, based on the trailer for the upcoming Naked Gun reboot, it seems like the movie will be hilarious. In addition to Neeson, the cast of the film includes Pamela Anderson, Phil Walter Hauser, and will feature cameos from people like Liza Koshy, Busta Rhymes, and the aforementioned Cody Rhodes. Out of these cast members, I’m most excited to see what Rhodes’ role is like in The Naked Gun reboot.

Cody Rhodes’ Role In The Naked Gun Looks Hilarious

Wrestling Fans Will Be Happy To See Rhodes In The Naked Gun

Rhodes’ brief appearance in the new trailer for The Naked Gun is easy to miss. It’s also possible that some viewers may not even know who Rhodes is, since he hasn’t had many acting roles and is primarily known as a WWE wrestler. However, about halfway through the new trailer, Rhodes appears as a bartender that Neeson’s Frank Drebin Jr. has some questions for. Rhodes’ unnamed character looks tough at first, but Frank quickly slams his face against the bar.

When Frank brings his face back up, Rhodes’ appearance is completely different. He’s wearing very thick fake eyebrows and a prosthetic nose, making his face look like something out of a cartoon. This is the only glimpse of Rhodes in the trailer, but it’s definitely a welcome inclusion for wrestling fans. Not much is known about the wrestler’s role in the new Naked Gun movie, but it seems like it could be very minor. Discussing his cameo in the film on the Pardon My Take podcast, Rhodes said:

Yeah, I have a little cameo. I feel a little weird because they keep promoting me — You know what, I’m happy they’re promoting me, it’s pretty cool. I got to do a scene with Liam Neeson. There’s so many different things you can say, Liam Neeson this movie, Liam Neeson that movie, I’m a diehard Star Wars fan so this is Qui-Gon Jinn, this is Liam Neeson. It’s a yes. He was the coolest guy. The way he was doing every scene, he’d take it a little differently. It was cool to chop up with him and learn from him in that moment, it was very fun.

If Rhodes’ cameo is as small as his above comments make it seem, some of his fans may be disappointed. However, based on the new trailer for The Naked Gun, it at least seems like his cameo will be very funny and memorable. For hardcore wrestling fans, it’s also humorous that Rhodes’ face gets quite beat up in the upcoming movie since his wrestling character was once known for being “dashing,” meaning he was basically one of the best-looking people in the WWE. Therefore, even if it’s very minor, fans should appreciate Rhodes’ cameo in The Naked Gun.

The Naked Gun Could Be A Great Movie Breakout For Cody Rhodes

Will Rhodes Become A Hollywood Star?

In addition to being funny and memorable, Rhodes’ role in The Naked Gun could also lead to more opportunities in Hollywood for him. Before The Naked Gun, Rhodes’ only notable role as an actor was in Arrow. In the CW superhero series, Rhodes played the minor villain Derek Sampson. Arrow was definitely a popular show, but Rhodes’ last appearance in the series was in 2018, which is quite a long time ago now. Therefore, it’s good that he’ll get some recognition for appearing in a newer movie.

It isn’t uncommon for wrestlers to pursue careers as actors in Hollywood. Notable examples are Dave Bautista, John Cena, and Dwayne Johnson. Rhodes has actually had notable feuds with Cena and Johnson recently in the WWE, so he is definitely used to working with top-tier talent. Therefore, there’s a chance that his role in The Naked Gun could lead to him appearing in more movies, which would be a great avenue for the wrestler to further explore.
