Star Wars Introduces A New Dark Side Force Power More Terrifying Than Anything Palpatine Even Dreamed Of

Star Wars has introduced a terrifying new dark side Force power that even Palpatine never mastered. According to Palpatine, the dark side of the Force is a pathway to abilities many would consider unnatural. We like to imagine Palpatine as the greatest master of these powers who ever lived… but there were limits to even his knowledge, secrets known by the ancient Sith Lords that were lost in the mists of time.

Charles Soule’s Trials of the Jedi released today, the last epic chapter in a transmedia adventure told over the last four years. It’s an epic book, one that sees the Jedi confront a terrifying power on a Force vergence unlike any they’ve seen before. They unwisely travel there with Azlin Rell, a powerful dark sider who unleashes a brand new ability that Palpatine would covet.

Azlin Rell Has Mastered A Terrifying New Ability

Let’s Call It… “Force Misting”

Azlin Rell as an older fallen Jedi

Azlin Rell is no Sith. Rather, he is simply a Jedi who fell to the dark side after an encounter with the Force predators called the Nameless, and he has mastered many powers. He taps into the Force on the world known only as “Planet X,” and he unleashes it to terrifying effect in a technique that I’m calling “misting.”

“He tilted his arms, his fingers curled into claws, and threw his head back. Burryaga sensed what he knew had to be the dark side of the Force, a cold, awful sensation. Three Nameless exploded, becoming clouds of gray-blue mist.”

Azlin Rell has learned to trigger some sort of spontaneous explosion, tearing an enemy’s body apart. This new dark side Force power is likely related to telekinesis, which Darth Vader customarily used to choke people. But it’s far more brutal and dramatic – and it’s possible there is no defense against it.

Palpatine Would’ve Been Unstoppable If He’d Mastered Force Misting

Imagine How Easily He’d Have Torn His Enemies Apart

Imagine Palpatine wielding such a devastating Force power. As dangerous as the Emperor was, he’d have been unstoppable if he’d known this trick; Darth Sidious would have ended his duel with Yoda by tearing his body apart, not by using Force lightning. Rey would have no defense against him in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, because this power likely doesn’t have any of the traditional weaknesses ᴀssociated with Force lightning.

In the old Star Wars Expanded Universe, Jedi and Sith used the Force to create a sort of “shield” around them to prevent the Force being used as a weapon during battle. Even then, the strength of the shield depended mostly on the power and skill of the wielder; Darth Bane effortlessly tore the shields of some enemies apart. But could any shield have protected the Jedi had Palpatine known this terrifying new technique?
