Andrew Garfield & 2 Of 2025’s Oscar Nominees Are In Talks For Luca Guadagnino’s New OpenAI CEO Drama

Andrew Garfield and two Oscar-nominated actors are reportedly in talks with Luca Guadagnino to star in a new movie about OpenAI. Guadagnino recently directed Garfield in After the Hunt, which stars Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri, and is expected to arrive in theaters on October 11. The director’s film Challengers with Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor arrived in theaters last year. However, his planned DC movie, Sgt. Rock, has recently been confirmed as canceled.

According to ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Garfield, Monica Barbaro, and Anora‘s Yura Borisov are in talks to star in Guadagnino’s Artificial. No deal has been reached, but Guadagnino is negotiating with Amazon MGM Studios to helm the project with a script from Simon Rich. The movie will reportedly revolve around the artificial intelligence company OpenAI in 2023, which saw CEO Sam Altman fired and rehired in a short period of time. While negotiations are ongoing and the movie is still in development, the plan is to begin production later this year.

What This Means For Artificial

Artificial Could Be A Critically Acclaimed Movie

Based on the report, Amazon MGM Studios is planning on ᴀssembling a strong team behind Artificial. Garfield, best known for playing Spider-Man in the Amazing Spider-Man film series, has received two Oscar nominations for his performances in Hacksaw Ridge and Tick, Tick…Boom! Barbaro was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for playing Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown. She has previously starred in Top Gun: Maverick, Crime 101, and Chicago P.D.

Borisov is also an Oscar-nominated actor after receiving an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination following his performance in Anora. While nothing is set in stone yet, the Luca Guadagnino movie is poised to have Garfield, Barbaro, and Borisov as part of the main cast, which could make Artificial one of the studio’s highly anticipated upcoming projects. It’s unconfirmed what roles they could play, but it looks like the studio is gearing up for a critically acclaimed film.

Our Take On Artificial

Artificial Has Potential

Artificial sounds like an intriguing project about OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. The movie could end up not happening, given that it’s still in early development. On the other hand, with Guadagnino eyed for director and Garfield for leading man, the project also sounds like an opportunity that the studio isn’t likely to miss.

Guadagnino already has a few projects in various stages of development. He’s working on a new version of the American Psycho adaptation and a Lord of the Flies adaptation, in addition to a Scotty Bowers biopic and a retelling of Buddenbrooks. However, it looks like Sgt. Rock‘s cancelation may have opened up a space in the filmmaker’s schedule, which could be in Artificial‘s favor.
