Wicked 2 First-Look Images Reveal Elphaba & Glinda’s Confrontation

The first images of Wicked: For Good reveal Elphaba and Glinda’s whereabouts following the first movie’s ending. Last year’s hit movie musical adaptation covered the first act of the breakthrough Broadway show of the same name. Subтιтled For Good, in reference to the biggest song from the musical’s second act, the Wicked sequel will cover the rest of the stage show while likely expanding some of its lore. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo will reprise their roles as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, and the sequel is set for release on November 21, 2025.

Now, Vanity Fair has revealed the first images for Wicked: For Good. The four new images feature looks at both Elphaba and Glinda in solo sH๏τs. In one frame, Elphaba flies on her broom, while in another, Glinda puts a tiara atop her head. Another sH๏τ shows the two former friends looking at each other, seemingly in the middle of a confrontation. The last image is a behind-the-scenes sH๏τ that also includes director Jon M. Chu. Check them out below:

What This Means For Wicked: For Good

Elphaba And Glinda’s Conflicts Come To A Head

These images from the second Wicked film include a critical interaction between the lead characters. At the end of Wicked, Elphaba makes the bold decision to go against the Wizard’s orders and leave the Emerald City on her broom, using her newfound flying powers. This notably leaves her Shiz University friend, Glinda, behind. This decision will create a major rift between the pair in Wicked: For Good, but they will come back together and discuss these differences. A glimpse of this moment is witnessed in these new images.

Elphaba is also seen with her broom in two of these new sH๏τs. This is also a crucial detail for Wicked: For Good, as flying will be a much bigger part of this second movie. Whereas this effect was primarily used in the climactic “Defying Gravity” at the end of the first movie, Elphaba can fly in the second film, and these images prove that she will make good use of it. The movie could also employ more flying effects than the stage musical did, as these elements are harder to incorporate in a large volume for a live, stage production.

Our Take On The Wicked: For Good Images

It Is Great That They’re Focusing On The Confrontation

Wicked lives and dies in the portrayal of Glinda and Elphaba’s relationship, and the first film really nailed it. However, the second act is where their bond is tested, and where things develop a lot more nuance and meaning. For this reason, I am excited to see that the early promotional material for Wicked: For Good has an image that focuses on these characters’ confrontations. Grande and Erivo are capable of giving great performances, and hopefully, they will deliver just as much as they did in the first movie.

On the other hand, the promotional footage is also a hint that more material for Wicked: For Good will slowly be released online up until its November release. Considering these images look promising, and many people want to find out how their story ends, it’s only a matter of time before Universal finally gives a better glimpse with a trailer.
