Snow White Disney+ Streaming Release Date Revealed After $205 Million Box Office Disappointment

Snow White will soon be streaming on Disney+. The live-action Disney remake starring Rachel Zegler as the тιтular princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen came to theaters in March. Critics’ reviews of Snow White were mixed, with Zegler receiving a great deal of praise and other elements of the movie receiving more criticism. In terms of box office performance, the live-action remake proved to be a disappointment, as it went on to make $205 million worldwide against a reported budget of $240 million.

Disney has now revealed that Snow White will be streaming on Disney+ as of June 11. Like other Disney films, the live-action Snow White will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ and will not be available to watch on any other streaming platforms. The original 1937 movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, will continue to be available to watch on Disney+ as well.

What This Means For Snow White

It May Fare Better On DIsney+ Than It Did In Theaters

While Snow White‘s box office results were a disappointment, this may not have any bearing on how it will perform following the Disney+ debut. Many movies that struggle at the box office end up receiving high viewership once they are available to stream, and the same could be true for Snow White. It is the kind of family-friendly movie that can do well on Disney+ and may gain more traction over time, a luxury it was not afforded while in theaters.

It is important to remember that no matter how badly Snow White was review bombed on IMDb, this is only a small portion of the general audience, and that audience may grow extensively once the movie can be watched from the comfort of home by all Disney+ subscribers. Those who skipped the movie in theaters, possibly due to the largely negative press surrounding the movie, now have the opportunity to watch it more easily, and that curiosity alone could lead to a spike in viewership.

Our Take On Snow White’s Disney+ Future

This Could Be A Fresh Start For The Live-Action Remake

Good King (Hadley Fraser), Good Queen (Lorena Andrea), and Young Snow White (Emilia Faucher) with a little blue bird in Snow White (2025)

Even though Snow White is not one of my favorite Disney live-action remakes, I still hope that it will do well on Disney+. On streaming, the movie no longer needs to be overshadowed by its various controversies, critical reception, or its box office earnings. The live-action Snow White can be enjoyed for what it is without the negative baggage that was attached to its theatrical run. Both the live-action and animated movies being on Disney+ is also an important reminder that remakes do not negate the original movies in any way and both versions can be enjoyed for different reasons.
