Karate Kid: Legends Box Office Pᴀsses Major Global Milestone & Climbs Jackie Chan’s Highest-Grossing Charts

Karate Kid: Legends has pᴀssed a significant milestone at the box office less than one week after its release. Legends is the first film in the franchise since 2010’s The Karate Kid. After previously appearing in the 2010 film, Jackie Chan returns in Karate Kid: Legends alongside Ralph Macchio, who led the series’ first three movies. Together, they train Ben Wang’s Li Fong, a teenager who moves from Beijing to New York and enters a karate tournament. Reviews for Karate Kid: Legends have been somewhat mixed, but fans have loved watching Chan and Macchio together.

According to The Numbers, Karate Kid: Legends has officially grossed $50 million at the box office. Since its release on May 30, 2025, the newest film in the long-running franchise has made just over $24 million at the domestic box office, and $26 million in international markets. Legends is the fourth film in the Karate Kid franchise to hit this milestone, and its box office momentum likely won’t stop anytime soon. Additionally, this box office haul has made Legends the 26th highest-grossing movie of Chan’s career, which includes over 100 films.

What This Box Office Milestone Means For Karate Kid: Legends

People Still Want Karate Kid Movies

Even though the 2010 film is the highest-grossing Karate Kid movie, fans were unsure whether the franchise would return to the big screen for a long time. However, due to the overwhelming success of the Netflix series Cobra Kai, which features Macchio and other popular Karate Kid characters, such as Johnny Lawrence, it only made sense to make a new movie. While Cobra Kai ended earlier this year, it’s possible that Karate Kid: Legends will be the start of a new era for the movie franchise.

As is seen in the above table, Karate Kid: Legends is currently the fourth highest-grossing movie in the series. Depending on its box office performance in the coming weeks, there’s a chance it will surpᴀss the first and second Karate Kid movies. It probably will not make more money than the 2010 film, but becoming the second highest-earning entry in the franchise would obviously be a huge accomplishment. Therefore, Karate Kid: Legend’s box office success may lead to a follow-up movie being greenlit.

Our Take On Karate Kid: Legends Hitting This Box Office Milestone

Karate Kid: Legends Could Lead To More Movies In The Franchise

Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), Li Fong (Ben Wang), and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) on the street looking at a flyer in Karate Kid- Legends

After the ending of Karate Kid: Legends, I would love for a follow-up movie to be greenlit. Because of the cameo at the end of the film, the next movie in the series could potentially follow Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence as they train a new student on the West Coast.

However, I’d personally prefer the series’ next movie to once again follow Li Fong, since Wang is exceptional in the role. Therefore, I hope Karate Kid: Legends continues to hit box office milestones so that a new movie can be greenlit soon.
