“I Know Some Things”: Tom Hiddleston Addresses Loki’s Story In Avengers: Doomsday & Robert Downey Jr. Returning To The MCU As Doctor Doom

Marvel Cinematic Universe star Tom Hiddleston comments on Loki’s upcoming story in Avengers: Doomsday and shares his thoughts on Robert Downey Jr.’s upcoming return. As Marvel Studios gets closer to finishing The Multiverse Saga in Phase 6, two of the most anticipated films in the remaining slate are Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with the former currently undergoing principal pH๏τography. With Hiddleston’s Loki returning in Avengers: Doomsday, the world is actively waiting to learn how the God of Time factors into the mᴀssive Phase 6 installment.

On the recent episode of the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Hiddleston spoke about his upcoming return to the MCU franchise. One of the questions the MCU veteran answered was whether or not he is happy about Loki’s part in the Avengers: Doomsday, based on what he knows thus far. Without giving spoilers away, Hiddleston stressed that he was incredibly excited, as he stated the following:

Yes! I do know some things… I know some things. It’s an extraordinary privilege to still be on the team and [that] there [are] more stories to tell, and you know this, but I feel like the character has grown as I’ve grown. It’s genuinely an honor to still be in the squad.

Hiddleston, who has been with the MCU since 2011’s Thor, also opened up about what it was like to learn that Downey Jr. is not only coming back for Avengers: Doomsday, but also taking on the role of Victor von Doom, a.k.a. Doctor Doom. After having been the big bad himself in 2012’s The Avengers, Hiddleston shared his initial reaction back when it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 that the Iron Man star would be showing up for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, but as the iconic Marvel foe:

It’s remarkable! It’s absolutely extraordinary – I didn’t know that until the rest of the world knew that. I think that was something that was completely under wraps until it wasn’t. I texted Kevin Feige with just like exclamation marks, and then I thought, ‘I better clarify that!’ and I said, ‘RDJ?!’ [laughs] Robert is synonymous with the MCU, he’s at the center of it, and I think it must be very thrilling to come back and play with different colors.

What Tom Hiddleston’s Loki & Doctor Doom Comments Mean For The MCU

Given how long Loki has been in the MCU timeline, Hiddleston’s excitement about not only still being a crucial player, but also continuing the story of a character who has evolved through several films and TV shows is entirely understandable. Hiddleston also shared in the new interview that he was under the belief that Loki season 2 would mark the end of his time in the franchise. That is why it was a significant deal to learn that he would be in Avengers: Doomsday, with Hiddleston saying, “I was sincere in my conviction that I thought it was the end.”

One of the reasons Hiddleston’s Avengers: Doomsday return is set to be special is because of the new position the British star has as Loki thanks to his more heroic last appearance, which makes the prospect of him meeting Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom even more interesting. Avengers: Doomsday flips the stances between his character and Downey Jr’s own, with Loki now more of a hero, and Doom set to be a focal MCU villain. With Loki now serving as the God of Time, it seems this more recent twist will make his role in Avengers: Doomsday quite compelling, and could mean he’s crucial in Doom’s defeat.

Everything Hiddleston shared about Avengers: Doomsday makes it even more exciting to have him back, and to see where Loki’s story goes next. As the Avengers: Doomsday cast is packed with multiple MCU players, it will be fascinating to see how this version of Loki fits in, especially after being the team’s first big bad over a decade ago. With Avengers: Doomsday currently filming, there will hopefully be more information about Hiddleston’s Loki return sooner rather than later.
