After Andor Season 2, I’m Excited To See Diego Luna In His Next Movie With 82% RT Score

After Andor season 2, I’m excited to see Diego Luna in his next movie, which has an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Mexican actor is best known for his portrayal of Cᴀssian Andor, which he originated in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and in 2022, he reprised the role in the Disney+ prequel series Andor and received critical acclaim for his turn as the тιтular thief-turned-rebel spy, even earning a Golden Globe nomination for his performance. After two seasons, the series concluded in May 2025.

Long before Star Wars, Luna started his career in Mexican telenovelas, but had his breakthrough in the Alfonso Cuarón movie, Y tu mamá también. Throughout the 2000s, he appeared in a mix of Mexican and American movies such as Frida, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, The Terminal, and Milk. In the 2010s, he started to take on more diverse roles in Elysium, Flatliners, and If Beale Street Could Talk. Now that Andor is officially over, it will be interesting to see what types of movies Luna does next.

Kiss Of The Spider Woman Trailer Has Now Dropped Online

Diego Luna Stars As One Of The Prisoners

The first Kiss of the Spider Woman trailer has dropped online, and Diego Luna stars as one of the prisoners. Written for the screen and directed by Bill Condon, the upcoming Kiss of the Spider Woman is based on the stage musical of the same name and is the second screen adaptation of the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig, following the 1985 Brazilian film adaptation. Other than Luna, Jennifer Lopez stars in the тιтular role alongside Tonatiuh Elizarraraz and several others.

In the teaser trailer, Luna plays a political prisoner named Valentín who shares a cell with Molina (Tonatiuh Elizarraraz), a window dresser accused of public indecency. The two gradually develop a deep and unexpected friendship as Molina distracts them from the harsh reality of prison life by vividly retelling the plot of a glamorous Hollywood musical featuring his beloved screen idol, Ingrid Luna (Jennifer Lopez), which begins to blur the lines between reality and fantasy.

Kiss Of The Spider Woman Received Mostly Positive Reviews After Its Sundance Premiere

Kiss Of The Spider Woman Currently Has An 82% RT Score

Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this past January, Kiss of the Spider Woman debuted to mostly positive reviews from critics, resulting in an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics are effusive in their praise for the film’s dazzling musical numbers, striking visuals, and strong performances – especially the trio of Lopez, Luna, and Tonatiuh. There is also much praise for Condon’s bold direction, its moving queer narrative, ambition, and visual spectacle. It’s clear that Kiss of the Spider Woman could be an awards season contender.

The trailer highlights much of this acclaim for the film, with critics calling it “spectacular,” “dazzling,” “exhilarating,” a “masterpiece,” “a love letter to the classic movie musical,” as well as “the best movie musical in years.” There is much praise for Jennifer Lopez’s performance, with critics calling her an “absolute powerhouse” in “the role [she] was born to play.” There is also praise for the supporting performances, as one quote calls Diego Luna “outstanding and another says that “Tonatiuh delivers a star-making performance.”

Kiss Of The Spider Woman Looks Like A Great Follow-Up For Diego Luna

Even The Creative Team Makes Me Excited

The Kiss of the Spider Woman trailer seems fascinating, as it looks like Luna’s prisoner is in La La Land with Lopez at the center of it all. The trailer is visually rich and surreal, blurring prison life with bold fantasy. It’s unclear if Luna will have any musical numbers, but that would certainly be interesting to see, and it would continue showcasing his versatility as an actor, especially after his gritty and grounded performance in Andor.

Kiss of the Spider Woman could be one of Diego Luna’s most exciting and daring roles yet.

Beyond Luna, the creative team behind Kiss of the Spider Woman is exciting. Writer-director Bill Condon won an Academy Award for Gods and Monsters, but has also been behind several musical hits as the director of Dreamgirls and Beauty and the Beast (2017), and the writer of Chicago and The Greatest Showman. With this talent behind the camera, Kiss of the Spider Woman could be one of Diego Luna‘s most exciting and daring roles yet.

Kiss of the Spider Woman releases in theaters on October 10.
