A Minecraft Movie 2 Needs To Include A Crucial Aspect Of The Video Game That The First Film Ignores

A Minecraft Movie doesn’t replicate the experience of playing the video game, which is something I hope a sequel fixes. Even though the video game adaptation has been one of the most successful movies of the year, making $948 million at the box office (via Box Office Mojo), a sequel still hasn’t been announced. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if A Minecraft Movie’s sequel was announced sooner rather than later. Even though reviews for A Minecraft Movie were quite mixed, with Screen Rant’s own Mae Abdulbaki giving it a 4 out of 10, I definitely want a follow-up film.

As a huge fan of the game, I was personally disappointed by the film adaptation. A Minecraft Movie barely included any building, which is a core element of the video game. Additionally, the movie’s story was quite shallow and a lot of the jokes didn’t land with adult audiences. Despite my issues with the film, it is undeniable that the ending of A Minecraft Movie perfectly sets up a sequel storyline. Therefore, in addition to the lack of building, if A Minecraft Movie 2 is made, I desperately hope it includes this crucial aspect of the video game.

A Minecraft Movie 2 Needs To Send Its Characters On A Proper Journey

A Minecraft Movie Doesn’t Feel Like An Adventure Film

After arriving in the Overworld in A Minecraft Movie, it doesn’t take long for the characters to meet Steve, who has lived in the block-filled dimension for years. Since Steve knows this specific area of the Overworld quite well, A Minecraft Movie unfortunately doesn’t feel like an adventure film. Exploring new areas and embarking on long journeys is one of the funnest aspects of the video game, so it is disappointing that this was left out of the movie.

When someone first plays Minecraft’s Survival mode, they discover everything in the Overworld on their own for the first time, which gives the game a sense of wonder. However, in the film, Steve acts as a guide for the other players and quickly explains what everything is and how the Overworld works. This allows the film’s story to progress quickly, but it’s disappointing that characters like Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn never embark on a proper journey in A Minecraft Movie.

There Are Many Things In the Overworld That I Would Love To See In A Minecraft Movie 2

Minecraft Features A Lot Of Cool Biomes & Structures

In the video game, players can spend quite literally an infinite amount of hours exploring the Overworld. Minecraft’s never-ending world is one of the reasons why the game is so special. Therefore, it’s surprising that the characters in A Minecraft Movie are practically confined to one small area of the Overworld for the entire film. Sure, Steve shows the other characters Midport Village and takes Garrett and Henry to Woodland Mansion, but A Minecraft Movie unfortunately never has a sense of adventure.

A Minecraft Movie 2 could be much better than the first film if it features the characters embarking on an actual journey in the Overworld.

Thankfully, this could easily be fixed in a sequel. A Minecraft Movie 2 could be much better than the first film if it features the characters embarking on an actual journey in the Overworld. This would allow them to explore different biomes and structures that are present in the game. For example, I would love to see a jungle, desert, savanna, and even more unique biomes like Mushroom Fields, Ice Spikes, and Badlands in A Minecraft Movie 2. Additionally, the sequel could include structures such as a Jungle Temple, Desert Pyramid, and Ocean Monument.

A Minecraft Movie 2 Could Also Explore Different Dimensions

Both The Nether & The End Should Be Included In A Minecraft Movie 2

In addition to showing more areas of the Overworld, A Minecraft Movie 2 could also send the characters on journeys in both the Nether and the End. The Nether was included in A Minecraft Movie, as Steve was held as Malgosha’s prisoner there, but not much of the Hell-like dimension was shown. Therefore, it would be great if the sequel saw the characters explore more of the Nether, which could potentially bring aspects of horror into the film.

The characters collecting items in the Nether could also lead to them traveling to the End, another unique dimension in Minecraft. If the players do travel to the End, the Ender Dragon could potentially be the main villain of the sequel. Including an epic battle against the Ender Dragon could help the sequel surpᴀss the story of the first movie. Therefore, in addition to the many areas of the Overworld that the characters can explore, they can also go on journeys in these other dimensions to make a sequel to A Minecraft Movie feel more like a proper adventure film.
