The Wicked: For Good Trailer Reveals A Big Change To Glinda’s Musical Story

This article contains spoilers about the Wicked stage musical which could impact Wicked: For Good. The first trailer for Wicked: For Good focuses heavily on Glinda and Elphaba. As was the case in act two of the beloved musical, the pair will go through an emotional time in the second film. The Wicked ending saw Elphaba make a bold decision by disobeying the Wizard’s orders and flying out of the Emerald City on her broom. This leaves the duo in a more tenuous place than they were in the first film, as they are still closely connected even though the Ozians demonize Elphaba.

While a lot of the classic moments from the musical, including songs like the тιтular “For Good” will be maintained in the movie adaptation, there are several changes to the musical. The Wicked: For Good team has decided to add two new songs to the film. One of those songs will be focused on Glinda, though its lyrics and тιтle are not yet known. The Wicked: For Good trailer has also hinted at a change to Glinda’s character from the stage musical.

Wicked: For Good’s Trailer Reveals Glinda & Fiyero’s Wedding

Glinda Is In A Wedding Dress

The first trailer for Wicked: For Good shows Glinda and Fiyero getting married. The pair had taken an interest in each other in the first film, and are together and engaged by the time that the second movie rolls around. In one sH๏τ in the trailer, Glinda is revealed wearing a wedding dress, walking down the aisle with a long train attached to the gown. Fiyero waits for her at the altar, and golden ʙuттerflies majestically circle her as the tune of “For Good” sounds. This is not completely new information, but it is the best look yet at this wedding.

How Glinda & Fiyero’s Wedding Changes The Wicked Musical

The Pair Never Gets Married In The Musical

Glinda and Fiyero’s on-screen marriage marks a change from the Wicked stage musical. As Madame Morrible announces towards the beginning of act two, the pair get engaged in the stage play. However, the musical never shows Glinda in a wedding dress, nor at any kind of marriage ceremony. There are moments in which Glinda specifically refers to Fiyero as her “fiancé” rather than her “husband.” It seems that the movie will change this result, marrying them on screen during the film.

This change could further complicate the already messy relationship between Glinda and Fiyero. One of the main plots of the second act, as per the musical, is a love triangle between Glinda, Elphaba, and Fiyero. Though Elphaba realized her feelings for Fiyero earlier (as evidenced in “I’m Not That Girl”), it is in act two that the pair realize their love for each other. They try (and fail) to hide this from Glinda, with whom Fiyero is engaged. If they actually get married in Wicked: For Good, it would be implied that Elphaba would be having a form of affair with a married man.

Will Glinda & Fiyero Actually Get Married In Wicked: For Good?

Could This Be A Dream Sequence?

The fact that Glinda is in a wedding dress in the trailer does not indicate in and of itself that the duo will end up getting married. One possibility is that the moment could be a dream sequence. The trailer cuts between different moments in the film, so it lacks full context surrounding Glinda’s wedding. Glinda idolizes and romanticizes her relationship with Fiyero, so it is quite possible that she would envision and dream about their wedding. It would be an elaborate costume and set piece for a dream sequence, but this is still possible.

Alternatively, something could stop Glinda and Fiyero from getting married. After all, they will not end up together ᴀssuming Wicked: For Good goes under the same plot direction as the Gregory Maguire novels or the stage musical (and, given Fiyero’s Scarecrow connection, it kind of has to). It does not seem particularly fruitful to marry them only to rip them apart a few scenes later, so my best guess would be that, even if a wedding occurs, something puts an unexpected stop to it.
