Will Ballerina 2 Happen? Everything We Know

Ballerina is the latest entry in the world of John Wick, and the movie has already been warmly accepted by audiences of the groundbreaking action franchise. The story follows a new ᴀssᴀssin, played by Ana de Armas, who seeks revenge on the violent tribe that killed her father when she was a child. Like the other John Wick movies, it has some fiercely creative action set pieces and slick choreography that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats throughout.

With the news that John Wick 5 is in development and the confirmation that Donnie Yen’s Caine from John Wick 4 is getting a spinoff, it naturally follows that Ballerina may not be the end of the story for Eve Macarro. Not only is John Wick clearly interested in franchising itself, but Ballerina explicitly teases a sequel in its final moments that plenty of audiences would love to see happen.

Ballerina 2 Is Not Confirmed

It’s Only A Matter Of Time Before A Decision Is Made

Unfortunately, there’s been no official comment from Lionsgate so far regarding a potential sequel to Ballerina. This decision will likely be made after Ballerina’s box office performance becomes clearer, giving the studio a better insight into whether a sequel would be commercially profitable. This becomes even trickier since John Wick 5 is already in development at the studio, and it will take some time before the writers know exactly how much they can tie the two stories together.

However, it’s clear that Len Wiseman’s original vision for this project spans more than one movie, given the not-so-subtle sequel tease in Ballerina’s ending. With Eve officially out of business with the Ruska Roma, the ᴀssᴀssin finds herself New York City’s biggest target when a huge bounty is placed on her head. It’s very reminiscent of the ending of John Wick 2, where John kills Santino in the Continental and becomes “excommunicado.” The only difference is that Ballerina’s cliffhanger ending feels slightly less concrete, as audiences are still waiting on a confirmation for that second movie.

Ballerina 2 Cast: Who Could Return?

The Sequel Would Bring Back Several Familiar Faces

Since Ballerina 2 hasn’t been confirmed, it’s impossible to say which members of the cast will be returning. Naturally, it couldn’t happen without the involvement of de Armas, but the great thing about this spinoff is that none of the other John Wick characters are tied to it. It would make sense if Keanu Reeves made another appearance as the тιтular hitman, given his interactions with Eve in the first movie, but it wouldn’t be strictly necessary.

Most of Eve’s acquaintances in Ballerina are ᴅᴇᴀᴅ by the end of the film, but there are a handful of familiar faces who could return to the story. Ian McShane’s Winston is always a safe choice, as he’s тιԍнтly involved with the High Table and has a personal history with Eve’s family. The Ruska Roma would also play a large role given their vendetta against her, so it’s safe to ᴀssume that The Director (Anjelica Huston) will be back in a more villainous role.

Ballerina 2 Story: What Happens To Eve?

The Future Doesn’t Look Bright For The ᴀssᴀssin

The story of Ballerina 2 is pretty simple after the first movie’s ending. Eve will have to fight her way through New York as the city’s population of ᴀssᴀssins and hitmen come after her. It’s very similar to the direction the John Wick movies took in their later sequels, and that always worked really well.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Ballerina’s director Len Wiseman offered his insight on the sequel: “The Chancellor relates to her at the ending that this cycle will continue: ‘You kill me, you’ve cut the head of the snake, but the body still lives.’ There will be ramifications of that. And she didn’t kill the entire village.” This seems like a really exciting direction for the potential Ballerina sequel, presuming the first movie performs well enough to make it happen.
